I posted another review on Corey fitch construction on handy canadian.
He is the laziest person i have ever hired. He did not complete the job, it was fully paid. He skipped town back to ontario. He did not clean up. e-mail me for photos. and what took him 7-8 months would have taken anyone else 2-4 months... TOPS... DO NOT HIRE THIS CONTRACTOR
Why would i post a negative review if none of it was true, or if i didn't feel wronged?
I'm just stating the facts here so that other people will not make the same mistake of hiring this contractor. I was ridiculously laid back with the build of this basement. So laid back in fact that corey took full advantage of the situation. It took 8 months to get to 80% of this build. Yes there were some problems with electricians, but Corey was never at a stand still, these are just excuses as to why it took so long. The deadlines span from Jan 1st, Jan 5th- Final build inspection Jan 20th. Then Feb 2nd he asked if he could have until the 5th, i said Yes. I came home from a trip and it wasn't even CLOSE to being done. But corey stated early february "there is nothing holding me back now" Except for his own lack of motivation At this point i was so fed up with everything i put deadlines aside, until the end of april, when we had a chat, and i expressed how angry i was with his performance. At the end of the discussion, we shook hands, looked each other in the eye and agreed upon may 1st. Well ladies and gentlemen, that didn't happen either. Suprise suprise.
The reason we changed the paint was because it was an AWFUL yellow that he even did not anticipate. It reminded me of a room that had been smoked in closed doors for 30 years.
I helped him out with getting supplies and bringing them down to the basement. As he HAS NO MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. All the waste from the basement went out of the household garbage and recycling which was extremely annoying as there was no room to put anything else for weeks, also due to the fact he doesn't have a vehicle. There are broken tiles which have not been replaced, painting still needs to be completed, there are still a few holes in the ceiling from his repair as he used the wrong mudding. The bathroom hasn't been finished- neither has the kitchenette.
I recently had another contractor come in and quote a finishing price for the basement. He stated that corey has made some mistakes in the bathroom and some of the tiles needs to come down as does some of the moisture board. The toilet plumbing is out, as is the plumbing for the vanity. From room to room the transition gaps are all wrong and the laminate needs to be trimmed for a proper transition. The ceiling needs to be cut so the coaxial cable for the television can hang in the right spot, the windows need to be cocked- The list goes on and on. And lets remember. This is all after 8 months, and was Pristine constructions ONLY JOB.
This job was over 'Pristine constructions' head

First of All Evan is not telling the whole story. Evan was given an extremely low quote on his basement, under the understanding that he would be helping with the renovation along the way. Which he did not. He didn't even pick up a broom once.. Evan was also given a quote which had some KEY POINTS lined out They included things such as, Upgrades would be an extra charge, A 50 percent deposit was required upfront. And he was to provide an electrician..
Well it took 3 and a half months for Evan to provide an Electrician.
The 50% wasn't received until about 4 months into the job. I received 25% to start.
Not only did Evan not help, But I went out of my way and bent over backwards doing extras and not being paid for them. The extras included tile more expensive tile, acoustically insulating, The Master Bedroom. Taking care of Evans Responsibilities for pulling the Electrical Permit. Repainting the basement because he didn't like the colour. And the first Electrician Evan hired after waiting almost 4 months to do so, bailed. So I had to deal with a new Electrician. I didn't complain once I was committed to doing a good job and honoring my word until the very end, when Evan became vulgar and completely ignorant.
Evans Basement was 1200 SF completely unfinished when I arrived. I designed it, pulled permits, passed inspections, and finished it ,Almost.
Evan was given a quote of 32 000 for his basement that included basic materials. (which were upgraded because he didn't like the original materials)My material cost for the basement are well over $25,000.00 There were many issues with Getting Evan involved from the beginning. This was never supposed to be a one man job. Evan has told me the quality of work was exceptional. That is always my first priority, QUALITY.
The one thing I have learned from this experience is To put my foot down when it comes to sticking to the quotes on paper.
I have never had an issue with a client before but I guess you can't avoid them all.
