Beware of Raymond Girard Painting & Renovation in Orleans, Ottawa.
We opened the doors to our house and our family to Mr. Girard for our ensuite bathroom renovation.
After 2 months of excuses, the work is still not complete and we can not use our bathroom and bedroom. Mr. Girard has told us on numerous occasions that we are nice people, and it is not our fault about the drama with some of his people - then he walked off on the job after exaggerating his costs and taking our money, which was all paid on time as agreed upon.
The workmanship of the many people he has sent to renovate our bathroom has been terrible. The photos are of chipped marble niche, uneven floor tiles, nicked ceramic tile on not-flush wall, and chiseled cracks around the shower faucet. Besides the damages in the actual renovations, they have damaged our existing wood floors and newly painted walls. There have been numerous worker no-shows because of various ailments and 2 of his people have had bad attitudes. The last person that Mr. Girard sent was one he has never worked with before.
Mr. Girard is not the old master he portrays himself to be, as seen on his botched attempt to renovate our bathroom, and does not honour his commitments. After receiving our initial deposit, there was no contact from him for 1 month and a half. He is quick to cash cheques but not the service. Mr. Girard is always asking for money (pay workers, broke etc) before the job is complete, and so are his people, who ask for gas money. For Mr. Girard it is all about the money, as he juggles different projects at the same time.
Contractors are often dealt with lots of disrespect from customers. John is a good example. John and his wife are a very nice people. When it comes to renovations all there insecurities come out. After 130 text from John and 65 from his wife. Wow full time job. Yes we did cause a leak and we agreed to repair it. My best friend came over 40 years experiance within 15 minutes he left. He told me Ray leave this job it will be nightmare, they trust no one. I had to hire someone else because none of my workers wanted to go back. Most unusual job in 40 years. We should mention money. I gave him a deal at $5,800 plus he added pot light, heated floors, niche total contract $7,200. He paid me $4,400 The balance is $2,800 plus Materials S500. The job is 85% done. What money did I run away with. Contractors will recognize this story, to many people don,t respect payment plan and trying to get us to do freebies or they don't pay us. So much crap every contractor must endure to make a low pay. Thank You John for listening.
Mr Girard came to our place to give estimate for work in our house. We agreed on price and time they would do work. We gave a deposit for work and signed contract. They were supposed to start the next week but nobody showed up. We called them many times but no answer. Finally after many calls we were able to reach them and we're told they would come the next week. Same scenario the next week nobody came and no call to let's us know what was happening. Again after many try to reach them we asked to talk to the owner who assured us they would come the next week. Same scenario nobody came. We then reached the owner again and told him we wanted cancel contract and wanted our deposit back. He came that day to give us our deposit but never apologized for delay he caused us. This business is not reliable, not professional and very poor communication. I would not recommend this business.
I understand the customer for not being happy with my company. I went to give an estimate at the customer home. I thought they understood that I had only one team to do this type of work and I would try to fit the in ASAP. That did not work out and my assistant try to book them without consulting me first. When things went wrong I call her and try to explain the situation. When we start a job for a customer we don't leave the job until it is finished we don't run around several job at the same time. She told me she was not happy with the delay and agreed to refund her $300 deposit. I told her if she was patient I could do it later. She told me she had no interest in our company and took the refund. The job that I quoted on is a very highly specialized kind of work, I only have one team that can do that kind of work. I have to be honest here with my answer, I did make a mistake in my bid, I only charged by mistake half of the price of the value of that work. I was not gonna back out it was my mistake, I was ready to loose money because it was my mistake. I have been doing this business for 35 years and I give a 6 year warranty on my work. I believe I am an honest contractor and by trying to give all my customers the best deal I do make mistake in assessing some jobs. I am sure it is not the last time I will make a mistake. I also learned when a customer is upset with you before we do the job it is a sign that maybe we are not meant to work together. I am proud of my company and my workers and to fix stipple ceiling we are the best in the industry. I hope this customer gets a good job done. I apologize to them for the misunderstanding. When the customer get a new price I think she will see that to do a good job in stipple ceiling repairs is fairly expensive. Check my ratings at Better Business Bureau with not one complaint. To be truthful I rarely get complaints from my customers just a thank you for our excellent quality of work. There is always two side to a coin. If you need an estimate try us out you will see that we will try very hard to do our best both in price and quality work.
Thank you for listening.
