I called Reliance for repairs when the furnace started making a noise. I opened the furnace and found the inducer motor fan was broken. Just the fan part. The tech from Reliance, without seeing the furnace or the broken part told me over the phone that the whole inducer motor would need to be replaced. Because they told me the fan part was not available, I agreed to the repair. $875.
The next day, I went on line and found that the fan part is available from the original equipment manufacturer, for $56.
I bought the part, installed it on my old motor, replace the new assembly with the old one and installed it on the furnace. The furnace works perfectly. Reliance and/or their tech lied when they told me the whole fan motor needed to be replaced. You rely on these so called "experts' to be honest and do honest work. Reliance did not. I have offered their motor back and offered to pay for the service call. They stick by their lies and insist I pay the whole invoice. I will not pay.
We bought a home that very unfortunately had a rented water heater through Reliance. We had no choice but to inherit the contract. I called Reliance to set up my account for the water heater rental. Somewhere in the conversation the agent told me that I also got a free warranty for my a/c unit through my contract. I remember being surprised but said okay, if it was free.
Now three months later, they send me a bill for a System Protection Plan and said that I signed up for a one year contract for my furnace and a/c during my last conversation with them. I did not willingly sign up for any contract with them, but now they said I did. I tried to cancel it chalking it up to a misunderstanding but they said I would have to pay out the remainder of the contract.
So so awful that all I was trying to do was set up one account and I was unknowingly signed up for something else I didn't want and would haver never purchased. Absolutely horrible company.
The installation and equipment was fine, no complaints there. The problem is the price I was grotesquely overcharged. I got a new boiler and air handler and paid twice the price other companies charge for the exact same brand. That of course is my fault I didn't do my research before signing. I paid $9000 more than I should have, don't make the same mistake. Shop around.
Never, ever let one of them to enter your home.
Reliance start charging me through Enbridge. For water heater that was replaced before three years from the same company that install it. Never called Reliance. Never seen one of them. Never sign contract with Reliance. Never new they exist.
After 12 months dealing with them through emails and phone calls. I figure out that once they get your money none of them cares to be honest.
Online Review:
I purchased an AC unit for my condo this year. The salesperson (Jigar) was knowledgeable and easy to talk to. AC unit purchase had limited 1 year warranty due to a value deal. The unbelievable issues occurred after unit installation.
1. Initial AC unit install was poorly done with leaks. AC stopped providing cool air after 2 weeks. Tech mentioned having challenges with my condos ready AC rough-in.
2. Follow up appointment scheduled to fix the leak followed by the technician (Emilio) cancelling on the day of due to it being a "late" afternoon appointment and the tech indicated he had personal obligations. Took a day off work for nothing.
3. Third appointment scheduled with the same tech that cancelled prior to. Fixed the leakage and have not had an issue since. That said, tech attempted to deflect blame to the company scheduler and condo developer for unverified AC rough-in issues, which is quite unprofessional. Tech also set up a subsequent appointment to have a service duo to look into the leak once again.
4. Fourth appointment set, two techs came to evaluate the AC and install. No issues found or any further leakage. An additional day off work due to scheduled service as per prior tech.
5. I reached out to the service manager (Farid) to share my service feedback and loss of confidence on the AC install to request an extension on the warranty. Was told they cannot extend the warranty further.
6. I requested to escalate the issue further up however my emails or calls were never responded back to after 3 follow-up attempts. Very disappointing and poor communication by the organization.
3 days booked off work for one AC install and continuous disappointment. Very unprofessional experience dealing with Home Reliance. Highly do not recommend.

I rented this water heater from this company and shortly after I sold my house. I informed them on a number of occasions and they resorted to any excuse not to cancel my rental contract. I finally had to threaten them to take the matter to the court and they promised and reassured that they would cancel and send me the confirmation. They have now "shamelessly" sent me a "friendly reminder" that my credit card on the account is about to expire??!!
I have written my last warning to them and then I will take the matter to the court.
I will never use this company again. I bought a $3,100 brand new Carrier air conditioner from them less than 3 years ago. They refuse to even give me a quote to repair the unit (even after paying for a service call). I have called them for days and no one has called me back. Unless I get a full repair done for free or a full refund I will be going to small claims court for a refund.
I honestly don't know how this company is still in business. I guess they have no other competitors.
So many things are a joke:
1. Starts charging me for services I didn't have.
2. Doesn't discharge a lien on my house from another company after taking over.
3. Replaced my boiler and made us renew a rental contract without explaining that we would be renewing the terms.
4. Made my ceiling leak after replacing the boiler and refuses to take responsibility.
5. Most hilarious of all is their customer service, everytime I call about anything I'm given incorrect information or the wrong date to expect something to be done.
At this point I would just love to stay away from this company if possible. An utter joke. Never had this level of service.
Our furnace was leaking onto our newly renovated flooring, called to request service. A technician arrived to repair it and replaced a pump but did not turn on the unit to test afterwards. The unit began leaking again and service was requested once again. The same technician arrived on site and stated that the unit was damaged and a hazard and shut it down. This was a week and a half ago and we are still left without resolve. We were advised that the furnace is damaged due to the duct work being improperly installed; which was leaking into the furnace. We had paid the unit off in full, however still have the Home Comfort Care. We have gotten zero answers as to how to proceed, endless phone calls, emails that are not responded to, besides one telling us it is our problem and it will not be replaced. This being due to the fact that it was not serviced during COVID-19. During this time all communication was changed and reminder emails/phone calls were no longer being sent to clients which has now voided the entire warranty on our unit, that is only 4 years old. I find this absolutely unprofessional, and very questionable. You are unable to get any answers, we are continuously told that a supervisor will call us back, with no phone call. One day last week someone called to say our unit would be replaced at no cost between the hours of 4-8pm, which was entirely false information and a technician was being sent and asked us what had been happening without any background knowledge. When asked about this replacement, there was no record of the call according to the agent we spoke to. A 2nd opinion from another HVAC company found that the evaporator coil and drain pan were installed incorrectly which led to the water spilling into it and destroying it. For a warranty that is supposed to be 10 years to be voided due to COVID-19, and not having an annual inspection done is beyond my comprehension, and the maintenance would not have fixed the initial installation issue, which is the cause of the problem.
I have never dealt with a company that lacks communication between employees, and their clients. We have endlessly tried to resolve this over the last week and a half, and to be quite honest, good business practice should not require the client to chase down an answer. Due to the improper installation, there is damage to the newly installed flooring, and we have been without AC for almost two weeks while getting this runaround from customer service. I will not recommend this company nor give a good review until they are able to align their business practice to the needs of their client, and fix their response rate and lack of communication.
***This is a lengthy read, but after seeing all of the other poor reviews, it's worth it, even for the entertainment value.***
Let's start with the sales representative, who of course, was somehow able to be at my home within 2 hours of my current water tank failing. He quickly upsold (rental) me on a tankless heater and a water softener. He made it crystal clear, that within 10 days, if I am not satisfied with either, I have the ability to cancel, free of charge. This is not the case when I had cancelled the softener within 3 days, I had to pay a fee.
The real issue is the quality my home was left in post-tankless heater installation. It appears the subcontractors (who I don't even believe hold their pipefitters certification) had core-drilled the vent hole from the basement to the exterior of my home. In doing so, they decided to use sprayfoam which is not standard industry practice as this will eventually decay and water will seep through. In doing so, their spray foam can had exploded all over the side of my home AND my neighbours home (see photos) along with some damage to the siding. They did not mention anything until my wife had gone out and inspected in which they had already packed up and left.
This is where things get interesting; we immediately notify Reliance of the mishap and kindly requested the contractor return to remove the spray foam from the can explosion from my home, my neighbours home, and the vent opening. They had returned a few days later and once again, decided to place silicone, similarly to spray foam, will not endure our Canadian weather - this is even after I explicitly mentioned to Reliance they needed to place polyurethane. I was then advised that it was MY responsibility to gather a quotation to remove the spray foam, fix the siding and place the corrective waterproofing material around the vent pipe because Reliance had no contacts and was unable to procure their own quotation (strange, isn't it?). As I didn't have much choice in the matter, I called contractors on my own time to gather a quote to have my home in the condition it was prior to Reliance's negligence in selecting unqualified personnel to carryout their work. I provided the quote after about a week or so and had asked for a path forward. I was then told by Reliance that the quote was rejected because it was more than they suspected ($~4500). I was then told that they somehow had a contractor who would like to visit my home and provide a quotation. At this point, I had no confidence in Reliance's subcontractors and politely declined in which I was told I needed to provide a SECOND quotation. Again, as I didn't have much of a choice, I obliged. This time the price was around the $5000.00 mark. Yesterday I received a response essentially stating the quotation was fabricated due to a few spelling errors and that I had to provide a THIRD quotation. For the record to all reading, both quotations provided were actual business's with HST numbers. Further, it was never mentioned that I had to provide multiple quotes, again, for something Reliance had caused. I now realized that Reliance has no intention in repairing my home and I'm now stuck with a disgruntled neighbour and spray foam all over the side of my home.
I URGE Canadians, especially in difficult times such as these with rising inflation and interest rates, Reliance does not care about you as a client, homeowner, or human being. They are interested in your signature on a contract and your credit card details to add to their $500M in revenue (est.) annually. Please take my experience as a lesson learnt and either explore other options for your heating and cooling needs, such as other competitors or purchasing the equipment out-right. We all work hard and our hard earned dollars should not go to business's such as Reliance.
