I want to say my overall experience with roofing for less was phenomenal. To begin, my sales girl explained everything in great detail and went over all my options and colors. The crew that showed up to my home was very courteous and polite. When the crew was finished in the timely manner that I was promised, they really cleaned up my yard and garden areas. I highly recommend Roofing for Less for your new roof.
I paid Roofing For Less to install soffit, fascia and eves troughs on our home 2 years ago. The work was sloppy, they had to be told to fix several things right away. They even blocked the hydro meter with a downspout, and when I asked them to move it, they didn't put up a new gutter, they just patched it.
A month ago, one of our gutters came off the side of the house and landed on our gas meter - the lumber that they installed was only held on with 2 inch screws! Some of the gutter screws were never even done up!
I contacted Kim, she said she'd call the owner and get back to me. I've called 10 times, they won't even pick up the phone or call me back. These people will take your money and disappear at the first sign of trouble. Do not use this service.
Update: Rotted wood replacement was part of the scope of work provided by Roofing For Less, rotted fascia board was replaced in several areas around the house to accommodate the new fascia. Using 2 inch brass screws does not constitute rotted wood, it's shoddy workmanship by a hack who doesn't know what he's doing. To wait for a negative review and then respond with crap is exactly this company's way of handling public relations, rather than calling back. No explanation of the damage was done, no site visit of any kind was communicated to me (so if they came here, they trespassed while I wasn't home). Not sure why they think I'd allow them to put up a downspout in front of the hydro meter, that's pretty ridiculous that they'd agree to that even if I asked. It sounds like the people in charge of refuting these negative reviews doesn't do much else with their time, servicing the needs of the customer might be a good start. I never asked for the repair to be done for free, I never spoke with anyone but Kim in reception, who never got back to me since I spoke to her on January 29th (today is February 25th). If Roofing For Less had done the right thing and simply called me back, we could have worked something out where I paid for the materials, but seeing their shoddy business practices extend to their online reviews, I'd rather kiss a toilet seat than let these people on my property.
This is an old house where nothing is straight, flush or level.
Many parts of this house have been neglected for years and have rot or dry rot issues. We addressed them at the time as we were instructed by the customer to and we did do some extra work for free just to make things function properly and be as sound as possible.
The project mainly focused on new aluminum fascia, soffit, eavestroughs and downspouts. Many challenges were encountered during the installation including rotted wood and differing heights/widths/depths of boards and fascia boards. Trying to get all that level and flush to install aluminum fascia consistently was very difficult. In some areas we encountered rotted rafter tail ends which was pointed out to the customer who did not want to repair them. The rafter tail ends is what the fascia board is attached to. These rotted ends are what caused the fascia board and eavestrough to fall off recently. We did send someone out to inspect this fascia board/trough that had fallen off and damaged the gas meter. We did not ignore calls or have the customer call us 10 times.
In that area at the time of initial installation we needed to add a 1x6 fascia board over top of the existing fascia board in order to build it up so we could install the aluminum fascia flat and flush. The existing fascia board seemed to have enough integrity to withstand another board installed over top. We did not use 2 inch screws, we used 3 inch screws. When we returned recently to see what had happened we discovered that the entire two board system that the eavestrough was attached to had fallen down because the rafters tale ends holding the original fascia board on were rotted. So without repair to those ends no boards will ever stay in place .
The customer also has a steel roof without proper snowstops and insufficient ventilation or insulation so there is extensive ice build up year after year that sits in the eavestroughs and weighs them down and with rotting rafter tail ends ultimately things just rip and fall off. It has taken 2 years for this to happen.
As far as moving the downspout goes, that is not a simple request. The downspout placement was discussed and agreed upon prior to installation including the position by the meter. After it was installed he wanted it moved. Once the hole for the downspout is cut into the eavestrough above it s not a simple matter of moving it as there will now be a hole. When we explained that a new run of trough would be needed to move the downspout properly and that the customer would have to incur that cost the customer asked us to patch the hole instead, keep the original trough run and move the downspout.
We also have to mention that the customer did not pay for his first installation in its entirety. He short changed us $1600. Not because he was unhappy at the time. He just stopped communicating with us and after many attempts chasing him for the final $1600 we gave up. We don t and can t offer warranty on our work if the bill isn t paid in full. In this circumstance it wouldn t be warranty work anyway as it has nothing to do with the installation or products, it is entirely caused by unaddressed wood rot issues and ventilation and insulation problems. Despite not being paid in full the first time around and this not being our issue regardless, we still went out and did an inspection and took the time to explain the problems to the customer. He did not like our findings. Since we aren t willing to replace things for free on something that has nothing to do with our work we are now receiving a negative review. We do not ignore our customers regardless of how we ve been treated by them.
Great experience!!
Dave arrived for the appointment on time and was very knowledgeable and patient
There was good communication between Dave and I and the crew
The crew was knowledgeable and worked hard. They did a good clean up
Would highly recommend them
I would highly recommend Roofing for Less in a minute. They set up an appointment and actually arrived during that time for my estimate unlike other companies. They were able to start within two weeks and the job went quick and the clean up was ok. I got my warranty about three months later and I haven't had any problems with my roof at all.
We were very satisfied with the roofing job from 'roofing for less'. Our crew, Mike and Jay are very experienced and it showed in the job. They worked around the wet weather conditions to get the job finished. Thorough cleanup. Good attention to detail. Mike finished up the roof by adding a bit of flashing between the soffit and lower roof to rodent-proof, as I had initially requested.
We bought a house in November last year and basically needed a new roof right away and it was a condition of our insurance to give us insurance. I had the steel roof installed in the winter and it was a nasty cold time of year but our roof had leaked badly in the fall and I knew it would leak again in the spring if we didn't get the roof done before things started to melt. The guys came out every day even if they were only able to make a bit of headway despite things being frozen and tools not working properly. They got my roof on before things warmed up and before my insurance company ended up canceling my insurance because the roof was in such bad shape.
My roof was being done through my insurance and they sent Roofing for Less. Jason was very nice and he used his drone as part of his inspection which showed an area of the roof I couldn’t see and there were shingles missing there too. Once my insurance company approved the estimate Roofing for Less came back to complete the roof within two weeks. In the meantime they tarped or repaired the areas with missing shingles so I wouldn’t have leaks. The job went well. They told me roofing is a messy job and it was but everything was cleaned up good when it was all done. Jason also helped me pick a proper colour for my roof and I’m so glad I went with his selection. If you want to deal with an honest and informative company then Roofing for Less is it. They weren’t the cheapest price but were mid range so my insurance company said that’s the pricing they look for.
My roof was leaking and they came right away and put a tarp on then gave me a straight forward estimate for the repairs and replacement of my whole roof. Jason was very informative and patient with all my questions. I chose to do the complete installation because my roof would have only last another year or so anyway. The job was done quickly with a good clean up. They don’t offer financing though so I had to use my credit card.
We are retired senior citizens.
We paid Roofing For Less (Dave Johnson and Jody Bayford Johnson) close to $20,000.00 to re-shingle our roof.
They sublet the work to some random unprofessional roofers even though they lead us to believe that they had their own crews.
They did not supervise the work.
They did not go on the roof to check the work.
In fact they never came to the work site until I requested that they come out because of concerns I had about the workmanship.
They did not promptly respond to all concerns regarding items covered under their 10 year workmanship warranty after installation.
Their sublet crew left the eaves-trough full of garbage, nails etc.
Their crew was urinating on the wall of my house and sidewalk.
Crew leader was constantly cursing, abusing his employees, throwing "F" bombs around in front of me and my family.
Promised "High wind install" and did not deliver.
Installed roof wrap incorrectly, vertically instead of horizontally, on much of the roof which does not conform to manufacturer's installation instructions plus there were some areas where they did not install any wrap.
Did not follow shingle installation guidelines of Building Products Canada Corp.
Installed ridge vent incorrectly leaving me with a roof leak and bats in my attic.
I reported the leak to them on October 4th by phone. They did not call us back that day.
On October 5th we emailed them and they asked by return email if there was a room above the room with the leak and we emailed back that there was no room above. We did not hear back from them. On the 10th I called them again and left a message and they called back shortly after.
They finally sent one of their sublet people (JK) over on Oct. 13th to look at the leak, who lost his cool within minutes of arriving and left without addressing the leak. They wanted him to fix the problem caused by the original sublet contractor who apparently was no longer working with Roofing For Less and he was not happy about it. Later they lied and said I sent him away and it was my fault he didn't fix it .... NOT TRUE.
Finally after waiting for them until late November to fix the leak problem to no avail I had to hire another roofer to replace the ridge vents which cost me approximately $1,350.00. Thank goodness CANPLAS in Barrie (the Ridge Vent Manufacturer) voluntarily supplied new ridge vent at no cost to me or it would have cost a lot more.
My advice ..... Hire Home Depot or Lowes because they will ensure that whoever they sub contract your job to will do the job in accordance with their standards of quality and customer service and they will honor their commitments to you.
Roofing for less did not take responsibility for the problems created by their unsupervised sublet crews. I must admit that I am stunned by their tactic of blaming me for the problems they created. I recorded all of my phone calls with Roofing For Less and have also kept copies of all emails for the record in the event I decide to sue them.
There is a lot more but I think what I have said above will give you a sense of what could happen if you hire them on the wrong day. I am shocked at their lack of integrity.
UPDATE.....
I see in their rebuttal that they, in typical fashion, have chosen to smear me and try to blame me for their poor performance. I will rebut in point form to save time.
I have never nor would I ever refer anyone to them.
I never asked for anything other than the things that were part of our initial agreement.
I was very unhappy with their work and they fooled me into thinking they were good people and that the crew they sent was not a reflection of who they are when I paid the bill. Once they had my money they were in control and it didn't take long for them to show who they really are.
They did return once immediately and a second time in June of 2017 (it took months to get them here)to wrap up a few small things.
Their claim that the ridge vent was hail damaged is a fabrication. Pictures of leaking area attached.
They commented on my home's value along with other items I may or may not own and all I can say is .... what does that have to do with anything? VERY PETTY!!! I never said anything about their fancy Bayshore Village Estate or their Florida Home that they winter at from December to March. Not bad for young people though!
The issue of the shingles that blew off is not the main issue. I got that fixed by someone else and while they did nothing to help me with that it only cost me $80.00 to get it fixed so that is not the end of the world but it does re-iterate their dishonesty.
They said they do not sublet your work .... I am attaching a cut and paste of a review on google put there by one of their crew leaders which counters their story. His initials are J K
"I sub subcontracted for roofing for Less they seem like all right people at first but they are very two faced, they have no experience in Roofing they inherited it from her father and the reason they don't have any employees, and they sub out all their work is so they can rip their installers I am not a disgruntled employee I am a reputable business owner in the community that has had it with these joke company's who thinks it's okay to rip off other companies to line their own pockets.i am a charitable man and belong to a wonderful orginaztion know as the freemasons and give to all types of organizations and to have this happen to me is absolutely disgusting, buyers beware / installers beware "
By the way it was Dave (owner of RFL) that told me about the sub contractor that did our roof getting busted. Did you make that up too Dave??
They (RFL) said our remarks were slanderous ... only true if the remarks are false.
There is someone telling fibs here and it is not me. It is Roofing For Less. I have better things to do with my life. I STAND BY MY REVIEW.
HOME OWNERS BEWARE!!!
Mr Lemon has referred us to other customers since we installed his roof so in the first 18 months he was quite satisfied. The issue has become that we have refused to continue servicing for free non roof related items such as replacement or repair of soffit, fascia, installation of garage attic insulation, lighting, drywall in the garage, damage to things as a result of high winds or hail. We do offer a warranty on our installation but it does not and cannot extend to acts of god and items we did not install initially. Mr Lemon may be a retired senior citizen but he owns a multi million dollar estate on the lake with several RV s, motorhomes and high end vehicles. Unfortunately we could not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of anymore with all the freebies he said he would pay our crew extra for then refused to do so when the final bill came due. His review clearly shows his disrespectful and bullying nature and lack of integrity.
The recent issue is that a few shingles blew off of Mr. Lemons roof in the hurricane force winds of a storm on May 4th that affected most of southern Ontario. Once again there is no warranty due to an act of god. Mr. Lemon has opened a warranty claim with the manufacturer of his shingles and that is out of our hands. The vent issue was that the rigid vent was damaged and dented by hail and as such sunk into the cut out cavity. We did make an attempt to replace it but when he came at our service person with another three page list of other non roof related things he wanted done around his property for free our service person had no choice but to leave.
I am actually very surprised that this site allows such derogatory, inflammatory and slanderous remarks to be made about any company or their workers. We do not sub contract out to random trades. The crew who installed this roof has been with us for years and continues to work for us and ironically they also have done installations for Home Depot when things slow down in the winter. In order for that to happen you cannot be a substance abusing uncouth individual. Perhaps it is us who should be considering a slander lawsuit against Mr Lemon and Trusted Pros for publishing such remarks. This is the primary reason we no longer subscribe to Trusted Pros.....we have found most of the reviews grossly inaccurate and misrepresentative as well as false with competitors having random people post a bad review. And we don t mean with our profile, other businesses have brought this to our attention as well.
