Alan at Scotguard was part of a new referral program with Home Depot, so I hired him based on that. He seemed nice, gave a quote and estimated the time required. The fans I purchased from Costco were not to his liking so he provided his own. I was surprised to see he had cut a large hole in the ceiling beside the fan cover area, and when I asked why, he said to get to the ducting. (there was NO need or request to replace any ducting).
He made a lot of markings on the newly painted ceiling and I had to hire someone to repair the ceiling and repaint.
Not sure what he did in the 2nd bathroom but this fan also has a Dehumidifier. When I turned the dial (located on the wall) sparks came shooting out of the wall... that's when I fired him. I contacted Home Depot asking what their process was for complaints and they were very helpful... letting me know this was a new referral program just being tested. They offered to mediate between Scotguard and me and they were great. Alan emailed me after hearing from Home Depot, demanding immediate payment. When I reminded him that Home Depot had been in touch with him on my behalf, he showed up a few days later at my door, angry, intimidating and demanding payment. He threatened legal action to which I replied that was ok with me. There were many other problems, including his weeks long delays and when on the job, he spent most of the time on his phone.
This individual is only now choosing to leave a review 2 years & 2 months after work was carried out. Why?
She was provided with a quotation and outlay of work prior to any work being done and agreed to the terms. After many pleasant emails back and forward from her during the work (copies have been kept), she was provided with her bill. She at this point became combative and refused to pay for money due. She then contacted and complained to Home Depot who had provided the job; they were provided with every piece of correspondence and re-mediated the case - resulting in them paying us the balance owing IN FULL after the amount she decided she would pay.
So, at the end of the day, this person has new fans, new pot lights - a big chunk of which was paid for by Home Depot. What she paid barely covered the cost of materials. Since when did hiring a qualified tradesperson allow someone to decide on how much they were willing to pay? And since when did a customer become an expert on fan ducting not needing done and no drywall cutting needing done for a different fan? I guess 40 years of experience means nothing.
Had Home Depot not stepped up and paid us for materials and work done, then this individual would have been sent to collections.
Thank you! We are very pleased with your work and pricing. Professional, pleasant, knowledgeable, respectful. We will definitely recommend you to our friends and neighbours. J and C Ducharme of Langley
