Main Services Offered

Carpentry

Prevent earthquake damage to your home, and reduce the risk of injury to everyone inside by having your basement, crawlspace, attic and garage framing upgraded to engineer-approved seismic standards. Increasing your home's resistance by up to 1,000% is the best protection. Call for a FREE assessment.

Home Inspection

In the event of a significant earthquake, your home may be at great risk of sliding or collapsing off its foundation. This can be prevented fairly quickly and economically. We offer FREE Seismic Assessments to advise you of about upgrades to reduce the risk of serious injury and loss of your home.

Other Services Offered

Structural Engineering

The design of older homes – and many newer ones – does not provide adequate stability against horizontal earthquake forces. Conversion of basement walls to engineer-designed "shear" walls increases damage resistance by ~1,000% and reduces the risk of injury. Call us for a FREE seismic assessment.

Framing

Planning to finish your basement with framed drywalls? First, take the time to investigate the seismic strength of your pony walls to ensure they will not collapse during an earthquake. Seismic retrofits protect every other home investment you've made and keep you SAFE. Call for a FREE assessment.

Home Restoration

Older homes in BC are most at risk of catastrophic damage in an earthquake. They were not built to resist strong horizontal quake forces. Engineer-designed seismic retrofits have tested successfully, increasing resistance to by almost 1000% and reducing injury. Call us for a FREE seismic assessment.

How We Know Retrofits Work

The most famous story told about seismic retrofitting of houses took place near San Francisco in 1989 when the Loma Prieta earthquake hit, severely damaging 40,000 homes. A well-known architect had purchased two identical Victorian homes which sat side-by-side on a corner. He managed to get only one retrofit in time. The retrofit home survived the earthquake with only $5,000 worth of damage and remained habitable. By contrast, the twin house was knocked from its foundation and cost $260,000 to jack up, repair, and slide back onto a new foundation.
