STAY AWAY! Rico and his son are textbook con artists. At first Rico will come to your home and be perceived as a professional and genuine person. Once a price is negotiated, Rico will not meet committed delivery dates, delivery will be short on material and he will not come back to complete the job. Also, don't buy into the LIFETIME WARRANTY because once they leave your home, you will never be able to get in touch with either of them again.
During installation, Rico Jr. comes to your home and demands for payment prior to the job being completed. In good faith, we paid for the job and still are missing shutters; 4 weeks later - no response from Rico or Rico Jr. despite multiple attempts (emails, texts and phone calls). There was only one installer and in order to have the job finished in a timely manner I had to grab some of my tools and help.
The quality of the shutters are poor. The edges are rough and poorly cut, the trim corners to do not align. The price point is average but did not expect this low of quality. Unfortunately, they have my money now and I have to plan to find another contractor to complete the job and replace the deficient ones.

The experience to date that we have had with Shutter Outlet has been horrible. We have now been trying to get in touch with Rico for almost two weeks and he has not returned our calls, texts or emails. The product is clearly defective and were advised and it is documented on out invoice that there is life time warranty and repair if needed. Shutter outlet has failed to provide customer service. This is not the first issue that we have had with them as the service has been awful from the start. We are are simply looking to have our blinds fixed. Clearly customer service is not a concern to them at all.
This is not a review about the product, installation, price, or warranty. This is a review about the customer service. I contacted shutter outlet May 4th. Rico sr. was very quick to respond and I explained that I was in a rush and asked if it would be possible to get the shutters installed by May 30th, Rico sr. said that wouldn’t be a problem as long as they were ordered ASAP. I booked an appointment for them to take the measurements. Rico jr. came on May 8th and again I mentioned needing them to be installed by May 30th. Rico jr. said that shouldn’t be a problem and that he would let me know if there would be a delay.
On May 24, I called and sent a text message to make sure we were ok for May 30th. My text message was as follows “Hi Rico, this is xxxxx from xxxxxx. I just wanted to make sure we were still on schedule to be able to have the shutter installed next week. Please let me know. Thank you”
Rico sr. called me back with a horrible attitude, saying he doesn’t need his customers to put pressure on him, that he doesn’t need the money, and that he couldn’t do it for May 30th. As a paying customer, I should never be spoken to in that manner. I cancelled the order on principle, telling a customer that you don’t need their money is unacceptable. It seems to me that they had overcommitted and weren’t able to deliver. I received a full refund and will take my business elsewhere.
I love my california shutters. They look amazing. My complaint is that the company seems very unorganized. Received a text one day saying they are coming the very next day to install. Then later that same day the appt was cancelled. Didn't get contacted back for a re-book so I inquired. Was told they would come the next morning. Didn't get a confirmation, didn't get my questions answered and then had to deal with the most rude and ignorant woman ever!! So annoying. Love the product, but would NEVER deal with this company again!
Both father and son provided great service starting with a free at home estimate and the best quote I could find. Measurements were quickly taken and shutters arrived on time. Installers removed my old window coverings too and installed shutters very quickly. They first perfectly and look great! So happy I hired shutter outlet. Will definitely recommend and use them in the future.
The shutters look AMAZING! It really does change the whole look of my home!! Excellent experience from start to finish, and you can not beat the price for the quality! From Rico who came in to my home to give me a free estimate, to the two gentleman who did the install, All men were so friendly, knowledgeable and personable. I received nothing but outstanding, quality, respectful service. I highly recommend this company to anyone who is looking for or considering having shutters installed in their home.

We hired this company to get black-out blinds installed in our room and another room. The sales person, Paul came and took the measurements and advised us that there would be a minute amount of light seeping from the sides in our room because of the angle of the windows. That was the only complication he mentioned and assured it wouldn't be very significant. So we went ahead with the order and selected the colors and models and signed the agreement. The day of the installation, May 4th 2016, was when the nightmare started. To being with, the installer did not seem to know what he was doing, he was asking us for information on which panel should go on which side and at what angle. This is information which a professional should know about. He installed the blinds in the other room (which we are happy with)but when the blinds were installed in our room it turned out that there was a lot of light seeping from the sides, and this was quite significant, not minute. After contacting Paul about it and sending him a picture of the shoddy job, I was told that he had checked with the office and the office manager Diana and that the issue would be fixed completely in the next visit. So we made the full payment to the installer in cash assuming that this would be fixed.
When the guy came on May 25th to fix the previous installation, it turned out that the side light seeping issue was only fixed on one side. Although I was assured that this would be completely fixed in this visit, that was clearly not the case. So I contacted Paul again and sent him another picture, the same day. Once again he told me that he would have the office look into it again and get it fixed. By this time I was frustrated with the number of attempts made to fix the issue and told him that if the third attempt doesn't result in a satisfactory job, then I would want the money back for the blinds installed in our room only. He then responded to say that he thinks I would not be satisfied with the job even after the third attempt so he said that he checked and confirmed with the office and that they would send someone back to take the blinds back and that person would also bring the cash then for the refund.
So they sent the guy back to remove the blinds on May 30th but they did not send the cash with that person. So I sent that person back saying to come back with the money, as i was told by Paul, and then remove the blinds. After sending the person back I contacted Paul again about the fact that the person showed up without the refund. He asked me to contact the office manager Diana. I managed to speak to Diana the next day who also said that she will look into the matter of how much of the money will be given back and also when to send someone to take the blinds down and that we will be getting money back. She said that she will call back on June 3rd with the time the person will be sent to take down the blinds with the money.
I received no call on June 3rd nor on June 6th. So I called her on June 7th and she told me that she had forwarded my case to this person called John. I spoke to John on June 8th. When speaking to John he said he looked at the picture of the work and in his opinion the job was done perfectly and nothing further could be done. He also said that I was not an "informed consumer" and should have known and expected that the amount of light seeping through would be at that level. I told him about what I was told by Paul and Diana that I would be getting the blinds taken down and would be getting a refund for them but he blatantly denied giving me the money back citing the agreement and also said that we can take him to court over this. I told him that this was wrong and that he is going back on the word given to me by both Paul and Diana and he just closed the phone on me. His attitude was condescending and rude. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with the lack of professionalism in the job and with their customer service.
