I had been looking for a new furnace when they showed up at my door. They talked a good sale, offering me a 7 year rent to own agreement with 24/7 service and yearly maintenance. They were new to the area so I figured I would help them get off the ground. But, things went south quickly. I had an noise issue in the first month (December) but they said they couldn't fix it because it was the holidays--so much for 24/7 service. When they finally found a Thunder Bay furnace installer to come to fix the problem, he then issued them with four red tags for unsafe and improper installation!! They fixed those issues--they had to or risk being fined for safety code violations.
After the second year, I called about the maintenance agreement. They said they didn't do maintenance, but they did send me 100.00 to get it done. A couple of weeks later, they called to say that they did do maintenance and sent someone to check the furnace.
This December, I had trouble maintaining a constant temperature. I called them, but since we thought it might be the thermostat, they wouldn't send anyone. I had to pay another furnace company to come (over 200.00) and they replaced the thermostat but figured that the real problem was the ice build up on the pipes leading outside from the furnace. The next day, I had to call Simply Green back as the temperature was still fluctuating--this is December and it was cold. A different local furnace repair person was subcontracted to come and check it out. He fixed the problem but in doing so noticed some more red tag issues. First, the pipes used were not up to code, second, the pipe was GLUED to the furnace, third, one pipe was vented into the basement and the other was vented outside a window that could open and beside the gas meter!! He said he wouldn't give them the red tags but allow them 30 days to fix the issue or turn off my furnace--that would have been in January!
He was sent back by Simply Green to fix the problem, but to do so, he had to remove a section of my ceiling from my rec room. He couldn't get the glued pipe off the furnace so he had to attach the replacement pipe to it.
The real kick in the teeth is that I decided it was time to end my relationship with Simply Green, but it seems I am not allowed to without paying over 25,000 dollars. That seven year rent to own that I thought I signed was actually a FIFTEEN year rental agreement that they don't let you out of! Even though their salesperson convinced me to sign with them with the understanding that I was going to be paid off in SEVEN years, it seems that I agreed in writing and over the phone to 180 months...really, how sneaky can they be! Had they been honest and said that I was going to be agreeing to a FIFTEEN year agreement that would increase in cost by 3.5% every year and I was locked in with a financial service that I didn't even speak to, well you can guess what I would have said, and it isn't printable here! I don't want anyone else to fall for their sweet talk, because that is all it is--talk. They sell you a substandard product, they don't provide reliable service and they charge you a price that is highway robbery. Run from this company and tell your friends the same!
When I bought my house, I had no idea if the filters the previous owner used were right or now. The team at Simply Green provided suggestions based on the make and model of my HVAC system, and the fact I keep pets indoors. They even came out and showed me how to install the new filters properly. I know who I will call the next time I need help with the heating and cooling system.
