Horrible experience
No communication what’s so ever
Larry Croome has literally took our money and has not provided the services or material that we paid for
Took 2 years and we still can’t get Larry to finish the framing and insulation
SIP BC has now closed his doors and has left us scrambling to try and finish our dream home
Do not do business with this man or any business that he is associated with
Save yourself the headache and go with honest reputable builder
First of all i was very involved in my dream home when I was depositing monies into your account
Second of all we do not owe you 18000.00 as we are still owed material such as insulation and the rest of our staircase.
I have gladly paid all my bills promptly for all the work that was done.
Yes we are frustrated with Larry as his communication is non existent
We have called him numerous time to resolve the issues but no communication what so ever.
We borrowed a neighbours phone to call you and miraculously you pick up.
Larry let’s be honest you just keep dodging as you didn’t want to address and resolve the issue’s a simple dialogue would have went a long way.
We have been more than understanding and compassionate about your situation and tried very hard to work with you.
Not sure why you seem to think you are the victim when we went above and beyond to help make this build a joint effort as we knew you were struggling with supply issues
We some of your staff here in November to finish some framing issues and then yes you were here a couple weeks ago to install a bracket , you were here a max 2 hours.
Our neighbours started their home a year after us and they are already moved in and living in their home.
So there has been no movement in this build for over 7 months except the outside work that we have done ourselves or paid someone to do.
We have tried to communicate with you with no response yet I write a review and in less than 24 hours you respond, you wonder why we are frustrated.
You told us 6 weeks ago that the engineering would be signed off by Wednesday now as of today there is still no date, which in turn hinders us in hiring drywallers or insulators to finish up so we can move on.
I would love to write a great review but in this case it isn’t warranted as you refuse to communicate.
Communication could have been better for sure. Donna was not involved so that could be her perspective. Communication scores 2 out of 10. TOO busy for my own good. If I was in their shoes I would feel the same way.
Fishers owe approximately $18,000 on their build -of which I do not expect to see -and I understand their emotions for not paying that.
We did take too long to install. I had a contractor ready to go and he got too busy elsewhere and was having his troubles holding onto guys, so I said I would try to get it done ourselves -while our order file was overloaded and then I ran into engineered wood supply issues with costs 150% over my sell price.
All framing has been done for 6 months by my production staff at the expense of my other schedules to deliver product. except for one little drop beam on some interior framing that was overlooked -that was installed by me personally 6 weeks ago. Due to lack of better management (me) I did not replace some problem employees that were dragging down morale and creating quality issues because of lack of workforce available. Things have eased up a bit now -but that ship sailed.
Donna does not disclose the real final problem, and that is a late request by the inspector for engineers seal on the job. It was not requested originally on permit issuance. The reason for the call on eng seal is there were substitutions made to the original plans that I designed due to material shortages during the pandemic. They are all properly sized and installed, but different from the permit plans. I was trying to get our engineer from Calgary to do it, finally he refused to take this on due to the distance. Only recently did I find engineers to do the work. The engineering was not billed for. The installation was cost plus and is short paid -understandably. I had severe shortage of labour during pandemic and struggling with materials as well.
If this is the response I get at this point as I am shutting down my company, then I might consider revoking my contact to the engineer. I need to get them to sign a release. I do also sympathize with the emotions of this. They are very able people and I could have done some things better for sure. Being short paid is a quick way to the end of the company. 23 years into this and 30 years plus in engineered wood design and manufacturing is now not to be.
Testimony to Building Excellence.
When moving from Maple Ridge to Nanaimo, I entrusted the building of our new home to Larry Croome. I was told by several builders that you could not put in a full basement in the Nanaimo area due to the height of the road services. Larry, unlike the other builders, did what was necessary to work with city hall to get the basement permit approvals. His Engineered sewer and water system has worked perfectly since the house was completed.
Larry not only built exactly to our plans, he went the extra mile installing sheathed key inside support walls with OSB reinforced with Simpson Earthquake Anchors to bring the house to state of the art earthquake readiness.
Earthquake preparedness was never previously discussed so you can imagine how impressed I was when I saw the upgrade.
Other details like rounded drywall corners, custom made cedar corner trim profiles, dual drainage high volume perimeter pumps were all unexpected perks.
All this, and we came in within 5% of budget.
I highly recommend Larry as a designer, builder and home energy consultant.
