That Guy Contracting came and did some work for our small, non-profit business. I appreciated that they were willing to work around our schedule, kept our costs fair, and did excellent work for us. As a small business, it feels nice to know that we are being taken care of in a truthful way. The work that was done was exactly what we needed in our kitchen and our building is now much more comfortable for everyone working here.
We needed a shower modified to accommodate mobility issues due to a work accident. Worders Compensation was paying and we had to find a contractor willing to work with them. Sounds easy, but it wasn't. We had a few contractors come to do quotes and no further communications from tgem after that. We called Jay, he came out for the quote and followed up! :) He had no issues dealing with WCB. The shower turned out better then we ever expected. Oak cabinets had to be modified and looking at the bathroom now; the bathroom looks like the shower has been there the whole time.. it wasn't a plan b. Excellent work, excellent communication! Highly recommend That Guy Contracting!
In April of 2014, after meeting with 2 other contractors I liked the vibe and communication I had immediately with Jay; he listened, advised, provided written estimates and worked with my budget. I had serious issues with interior water seepage due to ice damning (winter of 2013) and knew I had to do major work. Jay helped me decide what was necessary and what extras we would work on. I will be getting him back to renovate the basement (and can't wait!).
I live in an older neighbourhood and wanted a garage that looked like it belonged; Jay helped me do that and put up with my eccentric requests! It looks fabulous! That led to grading around the house (including moving a deck) lots of brick laying, and a fence.
Meanwhile inside Jay had the main bathroom redone (which had formerly been poorly done by another 'handyman'), and replaced 3 bedroom windows, very large living room windows, and patio doors.
The front cement step was replaced with a wooden step. The front driveway had to be cut to locate the main water line and replace the 65-year-old rotten cast-iron pipe with new PVC pipe (it was bound to happen sooner than later... other neighbours had to have that done).
There were many extra things that Jay did too... I know it was a HUGE job, but I felt like I was looked after, communication was not an issue at all, and I am very satisfied (one year later!) with the overall project.
We hired Jay to develop our basement. We met Jay at the Regina Home Show, did not know anyone that was an acquaintance of his or knew him. We had great communication from the first day he met with us through to the very end of the project. Jay was provided with detailed instructions as far as what we wanted and he followed them precisely. His sub-trades were all very professional, courteous, and timely in completing their work. His trades all had nothing but good things to say about Jay and it was evident that he had a very good working relationship with all of his trades. We did a final walkthrough together prior to him requesting final payment from us. We would hire him again without hesitation, and we have recommended him to friends, neighbours and colleagues as he is very trustworthy, reliable and conscientious about his work.
Do not trust this guy! He ripped us off! He verbally agreed to pay for our hood range insulation and begged us for his final payment before the job was complete! We hardly saw him unless he was picking up a cheque and for the most part...he just picked up the cheques in the mailbox. He argued about everything. He made decisions without my knowledge then was mad when I didn't agree and wanted them changed. He seems like a nice guy until you disagree with him. His paint job was crap! He put floor vents directly in front of our patio door when it could of been moved over early on. But most of all.... he waits to get fully paid then he sends me a bill from a hood range insulation that happened months ago.... he agreed to install it free of cost from us. Then went back and forth with it in text messages. His written contract was unprofessional and I had 3 different ones. He went over budget and also promised us a basement bathroom that never happened. His workers complained about how cheap he is. He screw us....we waited for 1 and half months after the job was supposed to be done til our kitchen cupboards were done but he wanted to be paid before everything was complete. He didn't return to clean up his garbage or a final walk threw. This guy is a joke to say the least. I could of saved a bundle higher in my own guys! I'm pissed! And to get a 1000 dollar bill after I paid him in full is a big disappointment. All he cares about is money. Telling me I had to give him final payment early so he could pay kitchen guys???? Don't you run a business?????? Don't you have money upfront???? Do not higher this guy. He's a sweet talking scammer and he doesn't keep his word!
We did the job as per contract, the clients changed the details of job and did not want to pay a difference, it was exactly as the quote was described, there was one cupboard door that had to be returned and reordered that took 6 weeks other than that the job was done ahead of promised date.
The client knew from the start that they were responsible for the install of range hood and appliances from the start. It was on quote and in text.
All garbage was cleaned up and removed also
I had old, worn concrete steps on the front of my house that looked terrible. I contacted That Guy Contracting and Jay came out the same week to have a look. He quickly figured out a solution that would include my goals: had to be done quickly (listing the house right away), had to be cost-effective (no point in breaking the bank on a house I'm selling) and must look good (as the old steps really dragged down the look of the house). Jay gave a date/time for the project to start a week later and by 0800 a.m. his trailer was outside my house and they were at work. By the end of the first day, Jay had emailed a photo of the new steps and offered me a choice of re-using the old iron railings, or building new ones. I first decided to go with new, but then changed my mind. Jay was totally flexible and was very easy to communicate with, even after "business hours". By noon on the second day the steps were done and they looked great, were solid, and exceeded my expectations. The worksite was completely cleaned up so all I had to do was enjoy my new steps. The project came in exactly as budgeted. I have had many terrible experiences with contractors and trades (one of the reasons why I left the steps for so long) and Jay went a long way to restoring my faith in the industry. It's pretty simple, really. I need a contractor to :
1. Answer your phone/emails/texts and be upfront with availability and timelines.
2. Listen to what I am asking for and come up with a plan.
3. Budget the project.
4. Show up on time, keep me informed as to progress, and finish on time.
5. Do quality work.
I will gladly pay top dollar if I can have these five things. Jay and That Guy Contracting met those requirements, hands down. I fully expect that That Guy Contracting will be quickly booked up with as much work as they can handle in the future. I would hire them again with no hesitation.
I was in Regina on a very tight timeline, I needed work done in a few days, as I needed to go back to California within 5 days of contact. Jay was able to pull Michael to assist me with my issue and completed the work under budget. Thank you for your promptness and caring demeanor, It is a difficult situation for us and you guys were great.
This was a really fantastic experience. The house I'd bought had its last major update in the 80's, and the basement was still the same as it had been in the late 60's, so it was in need of some serious renovation. I got quotes and met with 4 different contractor's before deciding to work with Jay as his pricing was fair and his approach was what I was looking for.
We ended up completely gutting the basement, right back down the foundation and adding a bar/kitchen area, as well as a bathroom and changing the layout. It was a major overhaul. Jay and his workers were courteous, talented, efficient and most importantly available for questions and changes. Jay and his employee Wayne offered solutions to a number of issues we were having trying to pin down a functional layout.
When we decided to add on an upstairs bathroom renovation and change a bedroom into part closet / part bathroom, Jay was accessible for my almost constant stream of texts and questions, he was flexible as we figured out how to keep on budget with my additions and he went above and beyond my expectations. To give an example, one Saturday afternoon it started raining and I noticed a leak coming into the house from the roof (not an area under renovation) I called Jay in mild panic and he was over at my house fixing a crack near the chimney within an hour.
My partner and I were having issues deciding on exactly what tile, and floor and tub and the thousand other choices that go into renovating the bathroom while trying to stick to a budget. Jay offered us the perfect solution, we gave him a floor plan of what we wanted and I emailed him photos of bathrooms we like and why we liked them and then Jay locked the door to the bathroom and a few weeks later opened the door to our dream bathroom, not only is it absolutely gorgeous but it was ON BUDGET. Something that we would have had issues with on our own. I added photos of what the bathroom looked when we bought the house and what it looked like after Jay got his hands on it.
It's been a few months since we finished the renovation and everything wonderful, it has not only stood up to daily usage and abuse, but continues to be functional and beautiful work. I've recommended Jay to everyone I know who's doing work on their homes or landscaping.
We bought a house and immediately started renovating, Jay and his team helped make us our home.
