Long story short. I don't recommend this company. I have a small bathroom that needed a shower installed. We completed the "grunt work". Rory gave us a quote. We did not ask for references and now wish we had. He showed up with a plumber and was here for about 20 min. Then he left. Next day showed up with his son and worked for an hour and then left and said he had a contractor coming in the next day at 3:00PM. Contractor??? I thought Rory was doing the work. Guess not!. He then asked me to front $1200. I said not until the job was done. The more I thought about it, the more upset I was getting. I mentioned to Rory that this is not how I do business and to send me a bill for the little work that was done. That bill was over $700 (I paid it for fear of going to court and wasting more of my time). WOW. Rory said he had to contact contractors and drive around the city for supplies. FYI... He showed up with a couple of sawed off 2x4's. He did have to go to Emco. I then asked who the plumber was that he used in my bathroom. He would not provide the name.
Anyways. I learned a lesson. Saying that, we have had our shingles replaced (excellent job), siding re done (excellent job). New windows (31 in total) and new blinds all recently replaced. Excellent experiences with those companies.
I have learned my lesson. If you read this review, make sure you get references and get more details surrounding the work that will be done and the expected time frame.
Rory is not totally at fault here, but I can't give him a glowing review when I am this upset after our short experience together.
We asked Rory Pearse to provide a quote for a basement developement.
He visited the site and provide a quote, but not very specific.
We asked Rory to break down the quote so we could better understand what we were paying for. He didn't provide it.
We asked Rory for 3 reference and a letter of clearance from WCB. Rory did not provide or perhaps unable to provide these, either.
We explained to him that the job was his if he could break down the quote, provide the references, and provide proof of WCB.
Rory asked if he could quote on the kitchen renovation at the same location, that we had planned to do ourselves. We thought another quote would be a good idea especially if we were going to use Rory for the rest of the basement development.
Unfortunately, four weeks since the initial site visit Rory had not yet provided a more specific quote, references, WCB letter, or terms and conditions, and payment schedule that we have now been asking for.
We did not 'hire' The Renovation Guy because he wouldn't move beyond the estimate stage. After weeks of frustration we informed Rory Pearse we would not need his services.
He then sent us an invoice claiming he spent 11 hours on kitchen design and consultation. Never had we signed a contract with him, never had he produced what we asked him to give us, and he was unwilling to provide us any tangible evidence that he spent 11 hours working on our project. The invoice is almost $900 that we are refusing to pay and he is threatening to take legal action.
Do your research on this company and Rory Pearse. You will find that the government has taken action in the past to revoke his license.
The Renovation Guy a.k.a Rory Pearse, turned out to be a difficult person to work with.
