We used Total Pride Construction after first firing our original contractor. The connection now makes sense as the two were friends and colleagues before they parted ways.
We were excited and eager to have work completed after waiting a month from starting renos with the original contractor. We were left without running water, without a toilet, shower and open lines. Nick (owner of Total Pride Construction) came in to save the day by at least turning on our water. Seeming like a legitimate business, provided us with a quote for the renos, we (tired parents who just bought our first home and desperately needed a bathroom and bedroom) had him start the next day.
Work began and we were pleased with the progress. Towards the end of the construction, he and his father and friend who were employees seemed to be rushed.
Their end results were terrible. The finishing was terrible. Paint on the walls bubbling, the craftsmanship terrible. They couldn't line up trim so the overlapped and caulked. They left gaps in the flooring, they didn't bother to properly tape and paint is on the ceiling and baseboards and trim. They left black marks, and hand prints all over the walls, paint splatters on the floor
The floors weren't properly sized so there are gaps and cracks. They didn't bother finishing the inside of the closets. I had a talk with Nick about my disappointment and he got defensive and passive asking me "what am I supposed to do about it, you wanted it done quickly". We had to ask them to come back to fix a list of items.... Which they came back... For an hour and fixed 2 things. They proceeded to promise to come back to fix the rest once we paid the final installment... It's been over a week. No contact. No picking up the phones. No texting us back. 15k and we are left with an unfinished house. We are considering legal action.
To anyone considering hiring "Total Pride Construction" for landscaping work, we urge you to exercise caution.
In June 2020 we hired Total Pride Construction to construct two flagstone paths. On their first visit, two contractors arrived with a large dog and allowed it to run free wildly across our neighbors’ properties. Upon asking that the dog be put on a leash, one of the contractors appeared displeased saying that his dog had anxiety issues and did not like being tied up. It was a very awkward situation to say the least. Nicholas Venasse (the business owner of Total Pride Construction) never asked us if we would mind having a dog on our property in the first place, which we found to be unprofessional.
Our pathway took two days and as far as the quality of work was concerned, we were pleased with the end result and the work was done on time. However, it rained heavily within 10 hours of the work being completed which severely damaged the polymeric sand, destroying its ability to ‘lock in’ the flagstone. The polymeric sand product that was applied to our pathway had clear manufacturer instructions which stated that the sand required 24 hours of dry weather for it to set and take hold properly. We called the manufacturer and they clearly stated that any professional landscaper should know to check the weather forecast before using their polymeric sand product as it needs 24 hours to cure in dry weather. Clearly, Total Pride Construction neglected to check the weather forecast prior to applying the polymeric sand to our pathway.
After contacting the manufacturer of the product, we contacted Nicholas Venasse (owner of Total Pride Construction) to inform him of the damage that the rain had caused and inquired what could be done remedy the situation. His first response was to remind us that it had been 24 hours since the work had been completed and he had not been paid in full. It was clear that this was his top priority above our concern and/or learning of the damage.
Nicholas confirmed that he and his crew failed to check the weather forecast before applying polymeric sand and admitted openly that he did not realize that the product his company was using should not be used when wet weather was forecasted within 24 hours.
We therefore asked for the work to be repaired and Nicholas agreed to send out one of his staff for half a day’s labor to replace the ruined polymeric sand. He further indicated that he would provide 4 bags of polymeric sand left over from the project to be used for this repair. We were pleased with his response and upon thanking him, said we would immediately e-transfer the final payment for the project.
After receiving our final payment, Total Pride Construction never contacted us to arrange or honor the repairs they had agreed to perform. We made repeated calls and texts to Nicholas, all of which were ignored. We tried for several months, asking him respectfully to honor his word and repair the damage as promised. We never once received a response and we concluded that Total Pride Construction never had any intention to honor their commitment to repair their work.
Given their lack of professionalism and our experience, we want to share our story to prevent others from experiencing similar disrespect and dishonesty from this company. Evidently, Total Pride Construction clearly lacks professionalism; lacks integrity to ensure customer satisfaction; and makes empty promises in order to receive final payment.
Had we been satisfied with the professionalism and workmanship of Total Pride Construction; we would have been pleased to refer this company to friends and family members in the area. These business referrals would have far outweighed the expense incurred by Total Pride Construction in repairing the damage to our pathway and ensuring our ultimate customer satisfaction. Therefore, we cannot recommend Total Pride Construction based on this negative experience.
