Very irresponsible and unreliable. Scott came to help do a few handyman jobs around the house. He broke my mirror and now wont return my calls. Please don’t use him. I’m glad this was minor and I didn’t end up paying for it, but I’m still left with broken property. Had it been a larger job I would have been devastated. Doesn’t take ownership of his mistakes, doesn’t come fix them, doesn’t answer calls. I can’t believe I made the mistake of hiring him for this small job and he still manged to mess up.
My truthfully honest advice: Do NOT use this company/person called Scott for your flooring needs. My husband and I had a nightmare lasted three months. (I literally lose sleep thinking about what to do with him) He never finished what he promised to finish. Dragged on for almost THREE MONTHS. Naively and trusting, we paid him before everything finally settled. My husband and I took turns to try to contact him ever since, he basically stopped responding to our text messages or phone calls. Once he decided to reply (maybe one out of ten messages we sent out over the months), he gave us all sorts of excuses/lies to delay the situation and not deal with the problems. After almost three months of trying to chase him down, he eventually told us he sold all his tools and is no longer doing the business, that he has nothing to do with it anymore, good luck to us. So if he is still out there trying to get jobs from you, YOU KNOW he is obviously a liar. Warning: Do NOT use this guy, he is not someone you can trust and do business with.
UPDATE: April 16, 2018
Without researching about this guy first (google for yourself), I called the owner Scott in the beginning of January and got a quote of $2900 for installing laminate floor and baseboards for my small shop. He told us only AFTER he finished the floor, that he is not confident doing the baseboard with vinyl material which was what we requested BEFORE he started the job. He proposed to give me $200 discount and find me a professional guy that knows how to do vinyl baseboards for $200. I agreed thinking as long as the job gets done within the same budget it's acceptable. So he brought us two boxes of vinyl baseboard material that are the cheapest and lowest quality on the market, the installer couldn't even make it right as it would wave and not stand. In the end I had the pay the baseboard guy off because he told me Scott told him to ask me for money or he wouldn't leave. At that moment, I was left with horrible looking half-finished vinyl baseboards that were no near to my expectations. I called Scott to come see the result, he finally came after almost 10 days, and agreed it wasn't acceptable. He offered to redo the baseboard for me in MDF material for no extra charge, I accepted but instead of getting him to supply MDF material, we agreed that I would just buy my own real wood baseboard and use his labour (we didn't want MDF). So as fast as we could, we bought real wood baseboard material, had them painted, and ready for installation. This is when my husband and I started trying to get a hold of him for nearly a month, he would either not pick up his phone or not respond to our text messages. Finally my husband was able to set up a date (March 8) with him for the baseboard installation--that's two months from the floor installation. On that day, my husband and I moved all the baseboards into the shop early in the morning, only to find out that he wasn't coming anymore. As it turned out, he never came.
Sorry to hear that he broke his arm from his response to my previous review. But it's no excuse and extremely unprofessional to play hard to catch for nearly three months. He had three months to fulfill our agreement which was to fix our baseboards himself or arrange someone else to do it or come to another solution somehow, but he kept us hanging in the air with baseboard material lying inside my shop yet on this day.
January 5: paid deposit
January 9-11: floor installation
January 11: paid in full
January 18: Scott agreed to do the baseboards
January 29: baseboard painted and ready by us
Meanwhile: kept contacting him and no result
March 8: the day he said he was coming to do the baseboard and no show
Meanwhile: kept contacting him
April 1: Scott told me he "sold all tools and gotten out of installations"
April 6: wrote the review
April 7: Scott claimed to TrustPros that he "have no record of you as a client" so I had to show proof that I hired him
Incredibly inaccurate and misleading review!
I took a deposit from Michelle for flooring. We installed the product, they were very happy. They wanted vinyl baseboards installed which I explained I did not do professionally. I did not install the baseboards, nor did I charge for them.
Everything I did at their store was done professionally, and billed appropriately.
I was recommended a vinyl baseboard installer by a co-worker and I passed on his name to Michelle.
Unfortunately their experience with him was not professional. He installed the vinyl baseboards poorly, Michelle called me and asked that I fix it at my cost and time.
I offered to install wooden baseboards at no charge if and when I had time to do so. This was not in any way shape or form a part of the contract which I had already completed.
Some time passed and I was injured at work in early March 2018 and suffered a broken hand. I sold all of my tools and moved into a purely managerial role within my business. I explained to Michelle that I was no longer doing installations and wished her the best of luck.
So, this review is not based on my work.
Yes, we are still in business, but I am no longer doing the installations personally.
Saying I'm "obviously a liar" is untrue and a poor explanation of what really happened. I'm only guilty of offering to help her when I had sparingly little time to do so.
Once again, Michelle received nothing but awesome service from me directly. Her experience with the baseboard installer is another matter.
Attached are pictures of the flooring we installed. I think the work speaks for itself.
Read several reviews about Scott and decided to still give him a fair chance since I can sniff out a scam and handle my own in this contracting world. The reviews were not glowing and he addressed that and offered for me to purchase material and not pay until labor was complete and I was satisfied. The quote he gave me was accurate and explained that once he sees the floor he may need to adjust it because of prep. His installer showed me my low/high spots and it definitely required additional work. This added to the overall cost but again it was 100% necessary and was discussed prior to starting. After the installer (Valentine) finished we noticed one spot that was a mistake (understandable that he missed it too because of the dishwasher placement in our cabinet), Scott sent out the installer immediately and fixed the problem no questions asked and even said we could withhold our final payment until it was complete. No clue why there are such bad reviews for this guy. He had competitive prices and a great installer. I highly recommend him and would use him again.
Scott was first one to provided free quote on site with samples of laminate that fit our budget. We requested a written quote for the work and timeline. We provided 50% down before the start of work.
While removing the carpet he truthfully warned me about issue of black mold. I am thankful that he waited till black mold was professionally removed and still worked on weekends and late evenings so that we could move in the house by 1st of that month.
Work was done within budget and in a timely manner.
They give you low quote based on wrong measurements. They will stop in the middle and ask for more to finish.
May we get a better picture of what happened? While quotations are usually spot on, there are times that conditions arise during a project that may require additional monies. This is standard with renovations. We apologize if you felt you were charged unfairly, however if additional money was requested this means additional work was needed. Its not in our best interest to misquote someone.
Although the initial installation was shoddy, Scott promised to rectify it. Needless to say from my review, he did not, but he also outright lied, changing his mind saying he never said he would rectify the work or product that needed replacing. It ended up costing me about $1500 in the end to fix but having read other reviews around the internet karma is starting to get this guy.
Beware
This was an interesting situation. The customer hired us to install laminate on his stairs. The structure of the staircase was not built by us, but by a different contractor. We simply installed the laminate overtop of the staircase. The workmanship was deficient by whomever built the staircase. The customer blamed us for creaking and deficiencies in the staircase that weren't caused by us. I tried to work with him on it but the only solution he would accept was for us to demolish the entire staircase (frame and all) and completely rebuild it at our own expense. There has to be a point when you say no, he was completely in the wrong and I never charged him for the work.
Choosing the right contractor for a renovation project is always a challenging task due to two main aspects; trustworthiness and credibility. If anyone looking for the same aspects don't hesitate to work with Scott at Van Green Flooring. Not only I received a very reasonable price but also I got the value for what I spent. Quality work!
***This Contractor is a Bully and a Liar and trying to excuse his unprofessional and negligent behaviour by accusing a Customer of being abusive and unreasonable in order to explain his horrible performance is childish and just shows you the quality of contractor and company you would be hiring. To say that it is "OK" to walk away from fixing a mistake or bad quality work is NEVER excusable. I guess every customer who has any concerns regarding damage or quality of work performed is abusive and unreasonable. Good to know that's how he will deal with you and then try to insult you as an excuse for his performance. If he spent half the time standing behind his work, during the job, making sure instalation and job quality went well, as he does now creeping the internet and insulting upset clients then maybe there wouldn't be any upset clients leaving bad reviews to begin with. Poor taste to insult clients as an excuse for bad workmanship****
Poor quality, doesn't stand behind thier installations, leaves you hanging and avoids your phone calls! won't come back to fix or repair mistakes, I had to hire a different company to correct the mistakes and repair the floor they installed.
Used this company to install my Laminate flooring for my whole Condo and also used their services for a bunch of tile work. They sent a completely different company to do the install, the sub contractor screwed up the flooring, did a very poor install, didn't put underlay in properly, left debris under the flooring causing it to split and buckle after and took items from my house!
The Tiler didn't show up half the time, screwed up the tiling costing me more $ in tile that had to be redone, a three day job took over 10 days!
Called them back about the floor splitting apart due to debris left under the Laminate, they faked an appointment with me saying it would be fixed by the end of the week then No Showed and never returned my calls again or answered my calls.
Had to finally call in a different company to fix the mistakes, turned out to be a simple glob of dried drywall putty they didn't bother sweeping the floor before putting down the Laminate and it caused the seams to push up and crack.
A company who won't stand behind their work, gives you the run around and plays "catch me if you can" for warranty work is a company who gives good contractors a BAD NAME!
This is the same reviewer that gave me a negative review on Yelp. If you look at this user's profile and their reviews there is a long history of nothing but abuse to a great variety of businesses.
Yes we did work for this client, we tried everything we could to make things work (we absolutely defend the work that was done), we ultimately walked away after what we felt was an abusive client.
