This guy is a fraudster - no way he is competent at all - he lies about his abilities and has zero skills - he made a real mess of the pad and walls he installed - everything needed to be done over or still need to be done - the pad is out of square undersized and the finish is very unlevel and poor. I paid him money and after he attempted a rework on the floor basically disappeared. If anyone knows where he is living I would really like to hear from you. Doug Wren is going around misrepresenting himself and promising things he has no ability to do. All the pictures he uses on this site are no doubt someone elses work. When he is confronted with poor workmanship he is very quick to anger and immediately tries to blame all the issues on some one else including the person he hired. This person should be locked up as he is a common thief. If anyone is willing I would like to hear from you as I am in the process of proceeding legally against this individual Doug Wren- Please call Steve - 613-490-5075
I hired Doug because of what his bio said on Handy Canadian about how he wants to help those who can't do it themselves and asks if you were ever ripped off by a contractor. Last year I was burned by a contractor and it is going to take $7k to fix his mistakes, so what Doug represented meant a lot. I am on disability and he was made aware of that. I feel he took full advantage of me.
Doug is not experienced enough, is late and leaves early, doesn't communicate well when he isn't coming and is spiteful and mean when confronted with what the problems are. His rebuttal to my asking for a refund on work he didn't do was uncalled for. He came back with "it is not my fault if you are out of funds perhaps you should make sure you have enough funds to complete a prioject before spurging on a new boat/tralier combo and camper". I delegated my money for this, it is my art studio space and not his business. I delegated money for the repairs he did but now have to have it done over again. I didn't count on that! He did a hack job on my deck roof creating damage. The notched 2 x 4's were amateur, the tin he replaced was mismatched to the existing roof tin and is gapped at the back allowing water to pour down to my retaining wall and the supports were not secured or lined up. Also he split an existing support driving spikes in it that he later replaced with screws. He was hired to resolve a beam that was split and he leaves me worse off then when he started. The tap he installed was loose and floppy two days later. He was given $200 to come back and fix my stove hood and bring a receipt, he never returned. He feels what he did was worth $750 for his time even though he only totally resolved one problem out of four he was hired for, that was reinforcing my arbor but even that is an incomplete job. He thinks to come back and correct his mistakes I need to pay him even more. He will not refund for the job he never even touched. His reasoning: He put in 3 full days and earned it, if he calls coming at 11:30 and leaving at 3 a full day then his thinking is different from my idea of what a full day entails. He thinks at most he owes me $30. Please post my review to save another vulnerable disabled person from being ripped off by him.
Thanks, Mary Williams
I am very disappointed and a little shocked that even after speaking with one another after she had decided she was not going to go further using me as a contractor, i tried to explain that as per her wishes we were on a day to day pay schedule and i would be paid for the work i did each day at the end of the day which was ok and happened each day, since we were on this schedule i am now mind-boggled as to why i would have gotten any money from her when she knew the way things were priced, as far as not bulding her porch to code is insanity i replaced 4 rotten boards and 1 12 foot piece of handrail as per her wishes, when i asked if the whole structure was being replaced she informed me it was not in the budget, which in turn means that i am only able to replace and mach to existing, also the steel on the roof was a flat tin style roofing which is not carried anywhere in our area i relayed this to her and she stillll wanted toi go ahead, she came to the harware store with me and was there to see the steel before it was even near her property, this would have been the time to speak out if you did not like it. She claims that i came late and left early everyday which is untrue and insulting i have a young family and like everyone else a ton of bills it is not feesable for me to only be working for 4 hours a day .all comments that ahve been made against me and my company are wrong and unimaginable, but i am willing to do whatever it takes to clear this situation.
