Does anybody know if this tax credit applies only to homeowners, or can people living in rental units upgrade there living space with their own money and get the tax credit. (ie painting, installing carpets etc)
Hi Gary- this is open to all as far as I know. I see no reason for you not to be able to fix up a rental and get the tax credit. Make sure you check with your landlord first though, he may want the credit.

Thanks for the response. I have had a few rental clients ask me about this tax credit.
Hi Gary, I'm pretty sure the other responses to you question are wrong. The tax credit applys to home/cottage & condo owners only. If you Google Canadian Home Renovation Tax Credit you will find many articles on the subject.
Hope this helps.
James
James is right. in fact it cant be used for commercial gain. so the landlord wouldnt get it either.
