I am, I guess what you would call a general handyman. My experience is all but 15 years in the business. I have done everything from small menial jobs to larger more complicated things such as kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels, large decks, large flooring projects of all kinds, etc.
Can anyone tell me if a license is required to be doing this stuff?
I have been researching but can't find any definitive yes or no answer anywhere. I don't need to be getting in trouble or fined or anything like that due to not having a license. Any info much appreciated.
Thanks.
I am also a general handyman. All I have ever had is workers compensation, liability insurance, and a GST number.
I also have been doing this for years. The only thing required is make sure to pay the government their taxes and you have insurance. I also have all the safety certificates and residential construction certificate. Not required though.
Steve,
Depending where you are, you may require a business license. Where I am, about 60 miles (100 k) west on Edmonton, I have a business license through the county. I'd contact your local county office or municipal office just to be sure. If it is required and you don't have one, there may be some substantial fines. Not all areas require the license. If it is required, often the cost is free or minimal.
Regards,
Mark
Don't touch the electrical or gas without a license.
Need a licence for trades Electrical, Plumbing, Gas, Toxic material removal. General handy man does not require a licence.
I had to look up where Wawota (pop = 560) is; it looks like you are smack in the middle of Regina and Brandon. Not sure if Regina has a reach to where you are located (2.5 hours +/-away) but whatever locality that administers your community that may be the first step.
