What are safety measures that we take during home remodelling for kids?
I say put them to work make them earn their keep. Probably a good idea to put them through a basic construction safety course. Maybe they'll learn something?
Home renovation contractors who are aware that children are in the home should take their own precautions to be safe while working. As you're checking on the progress, look around the room to see how the workers are handling themselves. Ensure that tools that aren't in use are secure, locked up, and out of the reach of your children.
Workers should never leave your home without cleaning up first. The reason, there can be a lot of things left behind that a curious child can get their hands on. Before they leave, insist that they not only remove their tools and supplies, but that they properly sweep the area and clean up to ensure they haven't left something behind that could prove hazardous to your children.
If possible have them stay somewhere else during renovation for there is so many reasons for them not to be in the home during this time ,fumes, dust tools, exposed construction material ect, find alternative accommodations till Reno is done is best
The best way is to put up a temporary dividing wall if possible with a door with a lock we all know kids and when they're curious they will get in there. A lot of times you can't help but have open areas so the best thing to do is barricade the best you can and have your contractor keep things neat clean and tidy with tools stored away. The very best situation is to have him going on holiday LOL
Tarp all areas under construction from the rest of dwelling space.rent a air scrubber (home depot) have it circulating during the build. And always change your furnace filter. At completion of the renovation .I also recommend covering or vacuuming up floor vents before reintroducing the kids to home
Open the window when painting, no matter how cold it is! Do not use the spray paint. If you use the tools like nailer or breaking the old tiles, make sure kids are not around; wear the eye protection and mask. If you have to mix the mortar or grout, do it in garage. If any of the kids is allergic to dust or have sensitive skin, better leave them to day-care. Take before and after pictures, kids will love it!
Today, no law against homeowners to refuse from asbestos for commercial purposes in their own homes. However, consult your local air and environmental quality agencies, as well as the licensing office. Follow their safety guidelines to remove this material. Then I suggest a popcorn removal in Vancouver so that there are no health problems afterward.
If it applis:
Asbestos testing!!!!!!!
Mold testing!!!!
Secure work zone....off limits during construction.
Kids and a construction site do not work. I let my Clients know they are responsible to keep their pets and children out of the site. If possible I isolate the site. If not I make sure all equipment & materials are secured and "off" even if leaving temporarily for lunch. Ultimately & legally you will be liable so make sure no one but you is using the work site.
