I have recently bought a house that has a basement with many teleposts that has made our large basement hard to use. I was wondering what our options are in moving/ upgrading our support beams are and the cost.
Thank-you
Tammy Stapleton
Tammy,
it is always possible to move posts provided that a qualified engineer verifies the structural requirements. Structural changes can be as easy as changing a beam to a bigger one or different material. But could be as complicated as adding new footings changing walls adding structure on more than one floor and could range from 1500 to 10000 depending on what the current situation is and what you want to achieve.
Sorry i cant be more specific but you really need to consult with a local contractor and insist that the entire project be reviewed by a qualified structural engineer.
Hope this helps
