What is the protocol when too many contractors indicate their interest?

The response to our request for a fence replacement has been overwhelming ! That is great but, I don't want to waste all those contractors time and so I now have four from the list preparing to quote our project.

I wish to stop there. Should I be contacting each of those who expressed an interest and advise them that we are not looking for any more quotations as we have or will have the information we need to prepare our budget and soon.....will be able to produce a formal Bid Proposal and Scope of Work that any of them can bid at that time?

Or, should we just post our project on Trusted Home Improvements again when actually ready to select and sign a contract?

Thanks,

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

We'd like to respond to your post regarding the number of responses you received and how this can be controlled for future posts.

When posting a job you're given the ability to control the radius used to inform contractors of your project - limiting or increasing the number of responses you receive. Your posting for 'Cedar fencing replaced' was setup to a 50KM radius which made your posting available to many contractors however, if the radius was reduced to 10 or 20KM then only a few contractors would have the option of bidding on your projects.

Additionally, you have the option of marking your job as 'Private' allowing you to search contractor profiles and only the contractors you 'Invite' would have access to your posting.

We would recommend that you take your time to screen each contractors response, view their profile and read their reviews to make a shortlist. Once you've shortlisted contractors of interest, reach out to them directly to continue the screening process to ensure you find the right contactor for the job. We recommend reading our Hiring Guide to help with the screening and selection process.

It's also suggested that you use the email tools available via your TrustedPros account to send an email to all contractors that responded indicating your intensions. There is the option to 'Select All' to compose one single email that would be sent to all contractors that responded or sent to the contractors you check off to receive it.

We hope this helps.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
