Hi,

I am planning to cover my backyard, its open to the main road for about 80 feet in length. Road is about 6-8 feet high from ground level of my backyard.

For immediate privacy what would you suggest either trees or fence, is fence a good idea, which idea does not cost too much?

Thanks

Hi Imtiaz,

Both solutions are costly, but the fence, depending on high is the quickest. But maintenance will be an issue. A lot of privacy screens are yolandi cedars. You can get them in 7 or 9 foot height and run in the range of 25 to 35 per tree. (when on special or how many you purchase). The fence per foot is cheaper and is immediate. However, it is in my opinion not as nice, and you should get a fence installer to put it in place.

If you go the hedge, put plenty of bone meal, fertilizer and a soaker hose should be buried at the same time. (leave the hose on low all of the time: cedars take lots of water, but the result is rapid growth). You will be surprised as to how fast this will grow, but then it will require trimming and shaping.

Either way, its expensive.

Hello,

Well I would put a fence do to the fact that to get privacy you would have to purchase fully grown trees and there expensive while a fence would cost you less than 1200$.
