What types of salt can be used to de-ice walkways which are not harmful to adjoining grassy areas and trees??

Hi Catherine!

Well, you can use Calcium Chloride. That works well at low temperatures as well lower then salt. Same stuff they use in making cement harden. Way more expensive than regular salt.

Other products are ice melt and numerous other names which in my opinion are the same as calcium chloride. These products won't hurt your grass for sure but are more expensive.

You can get any of these things from your local home depot or hardware store, walmart. Not sure what you have around you out there I am on the east coast.
