If you decide to build a compost heap, the main thing to remember is not to add any kind of meat. Only vegetable scraps from dinner should be chucked on it. It's the rancid meat that makes it smelly after a short time.

Stick to veggies and you'll have some very cheaply made compost your garden will thank you for next summer.

There are many material suitable for composting:

grass clippings

vegetable waste

fruit skins

used tea bags

torn paper and cardboard

dead flowers
