1 or 2 piece toilet?

Should I choose a 1 piece toilet or a 2 piece toilet for the powder room?

Is there a real advantage of a 1 piece toilet but the price is higher.

I like the shape of an elongated toilet

Secondly is it better to opt for a tank that uses the RED FLAPPER WITH THE SHORT CHAIN (and not one where the tank uses the vertical plastic flush valve and the rubber O ring seal)

It is so difficult to replace the vertical tube and the red rubber O ring and red sea. The read seal has to be 100% perfectly secured to avoid leaks into the bowl.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the use of a FLAPPER as compared to a tank that does not use the flapper.

If possible, I want to buy it from a big box store due to the lower prices

I am a layman and repairs and the ease of replacement of the defective parts is very crucial for me.

Thanks

Hello Martin,

Great questions. The best advice we can give anyone when making decisions about their homes is to engage the people who specialize in the specific topic.

While we specialize in home construction, we arguably are a "Jack of all Trades" when it comes to the finite details of toilet selection.

That said, I can provide my first hand knowledge of the 'Pros' and 'cons' of I piece and 2 piece toilets.

One piece are typically more compact: very important in a tight bathroom. They are also far easier to clean and keep clean due to the elimination of the joints.

However, convenience, hygiene, and space saving come at a cost. In other words, you get what you pay for.

In regards to the 'Flapper' questions: you are better served getting answers from industry professionals who provide service work on toilets - plumbers. They are on the front lines of repairs and best suited to answer your question.
