What is a general cost per sq ft to complete an addition excluding fixtures, and wiring?
Hi Rob,
Prices can vary so much on a project like this. A firm price would be a little difficult but a round about number you might be able to get. In reality costs can be from $170 per square foot to $250. There's a lot of factors and issues that could be hidden by years of improper work.
Recently, I ran across an attic that had been turned into another loft style room. The issue was the person(s) who made this attic into a loft cut the roof truss joists to make a staircase and never supported or reinforced the cut away pieces. The new owners are freaking and rightfully so. The fact the home inspector passed this dangerous situation is unbelievable but it takes all kinds....
Rob,
My suggestion is to look for quality and to not find the "cheapest". Get at least 3 quotes and consultants to discuss the project and then really pick the person you'll be most comfortable with regarding your family's safety in doing the job right, and as well as having in your home.
Thanks for the general idea on pricing and the tips. We had no idea about cost and wouldnt want to waste a contractors time.
