5% window light rule in basement

I've built a bachelor apt in my basement with a bathroom, kitchen and a living space/bedroom which is 195sq. I'm working on getting a egress window installed that's no problem however the rule of 5% light from the glass requirement is impossible for me to meet. I don't have the room for 10sqft of window.

Is there anything I'm missing here? The room is combined bed/living space. I want to do it right, however I'm in a jam.

Hi there,

Egress window can't be less then 3.9 sq.ft. and no less then 18" in any direction, on top you need 5 sq.ft. of day light in your living room.

So you take the sq ft of the living room say 200sq and 5% of that is 10sq ft or say 70 inches of glass area. Is this correct ?

Thanks

Thanks Steve,

However how did you get 5sq ft? This would be good.
