Add-on garage to existing bungalow

I own a bungalow and would like to do an add-on to the side of the house where the main entrance is. I want this add- on to service as both a garage used mostly as storage but also as a "mud room" where my family and I can leave our shoes/boots/jackets etc. instead of bringing them in the house.

I live on a corner lot within the Moncton city limits and want to know how large an add-on I can do in the city limits and an estimate on how much this project would cost.

I would like the garage to have several windows to allow in natural light as well as a car-sized door as well as a standard-sized door.

I want the garage to have electrical (lights and outlets). I do not plan on heating the garage.

Only looking for cost for now.

Thanks

We have built garage additions for 40,000 right up to 150,000. A lot of this depends on size, finishes ect.

Hi,

I would budget $ 60.00 to $ 80.00 per square foot with a 15 percent continence in case of any unknowns.

Thanks,

Gord

Hi Richard,

A lot depends on what the City Building Department will allow. Best thing you can do is talk to your local design builder. He will be able to speak to the City on your behalf to establish the setbacks (area on your lot you can add livable structures). You will need to do a survey of the property to aid in this discussion. Also, your design builder can show you some simple conceptual designs and cost them according to your wants and limitations. Without spending a ton of cash, you will have a much better idea of how to tackle your addition and how much it's going to cost.

I would recommend you budget around $60,000 to $100,000.

Good luck with your project.

A 20x20 addition can cost 40 to 50 thousand as for how big you can go will be based on lot size, ect.

Hope this gives you a starting point.

Cheers,

Mark
