I have an old house in Montreal, with 2.5 bathrooms in the second floor. I would like to add a full bathroom to my basement ideally next to the laundry room.
How hard and how expensive would this be knowing that the basement is finished, and the water main is in the front of the house while the laundry room is in the back. I am not a person with expensive taste, I just want an extra full functioning bathroom, on a budget
Hi Ami,
I build many bathrooms, in basements as well. It is hard to estimate the cost or difficulty for your bathroom as I would need to see it in person.
Usually, the water lines can be taken from other areas of the house, no need to connect to main, as it is too far. The drain sometimes is an issue and would have to be reviewed.
Thank you
Paul
With all do respect this is a type of project that should be personally reviewed to properly assess and honestly quote.
Cheers
Carl
The major issue would be the drainage. it depends on the existing drains, the type of floor (concrete or other elevated system) and the degree is what has to be altered. The short answer is yes, it can be done. I would suggest getting several visits from different contractors in your area and gather the information. Be sure, if you are asking for estimates, that you specify exact items so the contractors can base the quotes on specific items ... and each is using the exact same information.
If you have a stack to drain the bathroom close by the spot, then there is no issue to construct the bathroom. Minimum for this job would be around $15000
there are new methods to plumb
google it
bathroom not plumbeed
Yes a bathroom can be built in your basement. I would rethink your design and put it as close to the main stack as possible it'll be less expensive for you and less work to repair overall especially jackhammering out your concrete floor after removing your finished floor from the front to the back. I strongly recommend you calling a local reputable contractor from trusted Pros to get a fair and reliable quote. A good contractor is fairly good at designing as well or you could always get an opinion of a draftsman architect excetera. Hope this helps you. Jeff
It can be very expensive,
For you to run a plumbing pipe to a new area ,
The drain pipe would need to be vented to allow
Water to drain properly ,
The concrete would have to be busted from the
Plumbing stack pipe to the new location .
