I'm looking to add a small garage to the side of my sidesplit in Burlington. Approximate size would be 8.5'x21'. Anyone else done something like this, and have an idea of cost and look? Not sure if it would look out of place, but want to use it as a workshed, more than a garage.
Hi,
8.5' is not wide enough for a decent garage to hold a car, so you may not receive much additional market value for your home.
In other words, may be a bad investment.
You need to hire a BCIN, Architect or design builder to explore the design constraints from local bylaws, zoning and set backs to see how wide the garage could actually be.
I recommend 11'.

Thanks Andrew. I don't have the space to go to 11', but I'm really looking for a permanent garage/workspace, even if a car doesn't fit. Sounds like you're not in favour of it, if a car can never park in it. Appreciate the input.
