I have wood siding on the front of the house.
A few years ago, the main line to the street plugged up and we had to dig up a 250 sq.ft front entranceway. Concrete was put in afterwards to fill the hole. Then I put porcelain tiles over the concrete.
But the contractor could not put tiles right to the walls of the house because of this drainage flashing that comes out from behind the siding. He said it needs to drain.
But I had a big gap between the tile and the side of the house. So he covered it with another piece of flashing from the siding to the floor of the patio. You can sort of see it on the left side of the picture attached. We removed it because it was catching all sort of needles and leaves underneath.
He says I cannot fill the gap with concrete or Thinset because it needs to drain. It's a big mess and I don't know what to do.The other problem is the gap is not consistent - it would be impossible to fill it with tiles. Anyway you could not fill it with tiles because of the original metal flashing that goes up behind the siding.
Hi Adrienne
If this was Vinyl or Aluminum siding it would be a little more difficult to fix.
A Kerf must be made in the wood siding about 4" up where a bent edge of a flashing would be installed. However before that the gap must be cleaned out and dried. Caulk this gap with LePage Quad Siding Sealant. Fit your flashing but do not install. Put a large bead of caulking along the tiles that will be covered by the flashing and then install the flashing.
