Hello,
I would like to get some input on the costs associated with some painting. I was told to paint a small 6' x 3' powder room including the ceiling would cost $200 for labour. To paint a 7.5' x 13' laundry room and the ceiling plus 3 coats of paint on the trim and three closet doors was quoted as $470.00 for the labour. The material cost was 225.00. Does this seem unreasonable. Also to paint a small 41 sq. ft. foot bulkhead in our living room was quoted at $125.00.
I appreciate all the input.
Thank you
Considering how busy it is in the season I don't see those prices being unreasonable. Maybe a tad on the higher side but still quite fair. Don't know if you'd actually need 3 coats in a room though, unless you're doing a major colour change.
Thanks for the response. The three coats are only on the trim. The color on the trim was being changed from a darker color to white.
The quote you received seems reasonable. There is much time and labour involved here. Has the painter been recommended by friends? Are you entertaining two other quotes for comparison as is normal?
Hi,
Yes he was recommended by friends and does good work. I haven't gotten any other quotes as of yet. Just wanted to get a ball park idea of what this type of job goes for? Is there a per square foot rate that is typical?
Always remember to get at least 2 other estimates. The trim might need a primer coat and possibly caulk and fill. Is that included in the price as well.
You could always do it yourself since, it seems like a small job. Ask yourself what is your time worth if it something you can do on the weekend give it a try.
