Hello,
I have a question regarding architects for a home renovation. I would like to build a master bed/bath over an existing main floor/basement extension. On the main floor I would like to build a new kitchen, 2 piece bathroom and mud room which would require some load bearing walls to potentially be moved/altered.
My question is, is it better to find an architect who charges a set fee or hourly rate? Which is more economical?
Hi Andrea,
I am an architect & I would recommend a fixed fee if you can clearly establish the service scope. The hourly is safer for the architect.
Regards,
Peter
Thanks for question,
More or less it almost works the same at the end. If you are submitting all the paperwork to city by yourself? And your property not backing to ravine or any kind of conservation.
Better to go with fix price,
It's always better to set a fee for the required scope of work need it. It's hard to control the hourly rate thing.
