What is the best way to attach a 2x6 to an i-beam? Would it affect the structure of it?
You can attach a 2x6 to an I-beam and no it won't affect it, and the best way to attach it is you need a Ramset gun to do it or you can glue it with pl400
You can put a frame up either side of the I-beam and attached the wood to each side of the bottom of the frame without touching the I-beam, of course this will make it a little larger if this is an issue you can Glue wood to the bottom of the I-beam with contact cement or PL caulking. Hope this helps you
Hi Jim,
I'm assuming you mean the underside of the beam as you are running a wall along the beam.
Best way is to build a box around the beam. You can then attach the wall to the wood members. You will likely need to box either side of the beam anyway so not really losing much space.
Another way is to use PL Premium along the enter 2"x 6" and use a powder actuated fastener to hold it in place as it sets.
Hope that helps.
