My 12 year old backyard measures 30 ft by 30 ft, It is full of weeds.
I want to replace the backyard with new grass/sod
How do I do it i.e procedure wise and the timings?
What type of grass will NOT grow tall so quickly, I want the grass to grow "fat" and not tall.
I use a push mower to cut my grass.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Hi there,
The best time to sod your lawn is in spring or fall as it's much cooler outside and it reduces the stress and watering.
If your lawn is in real bad shape it may make sense to re-sod the whole lawn. This involves removing the old lawn area and at least 3-4 inches of soil. New organic topsoil would then be installed and graded accordingly. Lastly, we install the new sod. If it is full sun we would use Kentucky Blue Grass sod.
In my experience with sod in Ottawa, all varieties that I'm aware of still grow fairly tall. The idea is to mow weekly so that it doesn't get out of hand.
Kindly,
Andrew Burgess
