Bad Contractors

I have an issue with a contractor. He has not been paying the trades - this is concerning. I have requested invoices from the contractor and now he has not shown up. What should I do?

When was the last time he was on site? It is Christmas - perhaps he's taking a break & spending time with family. Are the sub-trades coming to you with their concerns? Little more info may garner an answer you are looking for.

Hello Rose,
Sorry to hear about your contractor. If you are unsure that he is paying his trades you can ask him for a statutory of declaration to insure he is paying his trades. Unfortunately the law doesn't only make it the contractors responsibility to pay a a trade but it also makes its the clients as well and they want to make sure you are doing your do-diligence. Also the sub-trade can put a lean on your home/project.
If your contractor does not want to co-operate you may wants to cut your loses if you are not to far into the project.
