I'm a about to sign a contract to get a bathroom put in basement. Room is already 3/4 enclosed - concrete wall on three sides. Contract gives one set price for all work with a list of jobs. Two jobs are: remove existing floor and take debris to transfer station (already done) and relocate plumbing (already roughed in). Should I negotiate for a reduced price and how much?
Diane
If the tear out and removal of the flooring is done ask for about 150.00 to 200.00 off.
Are the drains where they are suposed to be in the new finish?
Are the water supply lines in the new finish location?
If not, there are costs associated with all of that.
Discuss it with your contractor.
If you want to sign contract with the price with the work already done that was in your contract and a set price then honour that price and if there's more work to be done negotiate a lower price on that unless some of the work that was done in the contract wasn't done then your price should be negotiable
If nothing is signed yet, then ask for a revised price before signing.
Your contractor is not being honest with you.
Hi Diane,
It sounds like clarification is required as to the full scope of work required BEFORE signing.
It also seems like there is somewhat of a dispute prior to even signing! If that's the case to ANY extent, do not sign & find someone else.
Best of luck....
You should definitely call around and see if someone is more willing to give you a good deal for a renovation job.
