Before we look into a basement renovation, we'd like to explore the possibility of converting one of the bedrooms on the main level into a bathroom. The bedroom I'd like to use is about 15 feet from the existing bathroom. We live in a bungalow and my husband thinks the new plumbing will have to be angled to allow water to flow to the stack and it will affect the ceiling height in the basement
Susan, not knowing the particulars of your house design, I can say for sure the pipe from the bathroom will ineviably lower the ceiling a bit, more aptly, create a bulkhead inngje ceiling.
I believe the required slope is 1/4" to a foot. So a foot travelled by the pipe must drop a 1/4" in slope. (Please double check with a plumber for details.)
So, unless you are close to the main down pipe in the house, it will affect the ceiling in some way, but it shouldn't interfere with the grand design greatly.
Good luck
