I would try to keep the heat runs for the 2nd floor, inside and closets and run between floor joists. You may have to srap the closet wall to accommodate the heat run but its better than too many bulk heads. Also i would stay away from brands like Lennox and Trane as usually only authorized dealers can get parts, the parts are typically more exspensive as well. I use Keeprite, they have a 10 yr warranty on most of the parts such as venter motor, blower fan, gas valve and circuit board, the heat exhangers have a 20 warranty. Keeprite is a very dependable brand and almost every wholesaler has parts for their furnaces which makes them easy to service and repair when required. Hope this helps

Excellent advise I install a lot of York and I agree while Trane is excellent parts are an issue. Lennox well I will not say too much as lawsuits are expensive go with equipment sold by an wholesale outlet like RSL here in Winnipeg they will open for you at any time of the day or night. All the best Jack

I would have to say that KeepRite would be the most dependable furnace/ac to install, and as for having the least amount of boxing and bulkheads....have 2 systems in the house. 1 system in the basement to cover the basement and main floor, then one separate system on the second floor with all the duct work running in the attic there by eliminating all bulkheads on the 2nd floor and many on the main floor as no piping would be required to come from the 2nd floor into the basement. The 2nd floor furnace could either be also installed in the attic or in a small mechanical room on 2nd floor. We've done many homes in this way and have had many happy customers and designers
