If I'm on a flooring job where black mold is uncovered. Am I now responsible/liable for fixing it? If the home owner/client is unreachable and I cannot get a response can I walk away with black mold exposed or is it an obligation to remove it to keep all tenants of the residence safe?

Of course your not responsible in any way for the mold. You didn't cause it to be there nor is your contract for mold removal or anything else that is uncovered during a renovation.

If you truly want to cover your behind then inform anyone living there now in writing that mold has been discovered and that you recommend that they move out immediately. Inform your client the same in writing. Lock up the house and move on to your next job until the owner contacts you with directions on how he would like to proceed.
