Jobs like this can range from $1000-2000 and always require an ESA inspection and permit. Hydro fees are normally included and warranty should be from 1 to 5 years. As any job, there can be unforeseens and other issues which may cost a bit more, but this is a pretty straight forward job for a licensed electrical contractor. (Be sure to always check their ESA number, license info and permit with the ESA (www.esasafe.com) ). If someone tells you you do not require an inspection, he is not a legal contractor and carries no liability insurance putting your home and family at risk. Not only does your panel need changing, but there are also a half dozen other checks which a thorough contractor should review to ensure the service entrance is up to code.

Hi Tina

In addition to Roberts post, there are a few issues with Niagara Falls Hydro (which is actually called Niagara Peninsula Energy (NPE)). In Niagara Falls 90% of the installations are underground and many of them are connected to a ring type distribution and if a disconnect is required because the LEC needs to work in the meter socket, then they will have to excavate a 4 x 4 hole at the base of the meter socket for the disconnect. Often this is in the driveway area and involves digging up asphalt or concrete.

Also, if you have the round style meter socket and work is required to be done in it, the NPE will require you to replace it to the more modern square style meter socket. Due to these factors alone, I never can provide an estimate for a simple panel change in Niagara Falls without doing a site visit first.

The panel change at the base amount is going to be $1000+, then you need to ensure that the grounding and bonding is good, then if you have to deal with the digging and lengthening of the wires from the meter socket (maybe); which may involve digging (unless it is over head) and dealing with the old style meter socket (if you have it). In addition the additional work for the stove cable On a good day with the stars being aligned, this is $1500+ job, if you have to do the other parts, then you are $2000+ all day long.

Cheers
