Hi Everyone. I'm looking to start my own handyman service on a part time basis here in Ontario. I know i need a license for plumbing and electrical so dont have to those. But do i need one to do just small odd jobs for people? I have many years doing reno work for myself and family friends. I know I need a business license and insurance. Anything else I might need?
Hey there, it's great to hear your looking to start your own business. You must make sure you have a Master Business License, Commercial General Liability insurance, and WSIB unless you are only working for the direct owner of the property and are being paid directly by them. Also if you intend to work on ladders or at heights above 10ft, you will need working at heights training. Hope this helps.
Hi Ken. It looks like once you have your buisiness lisence and insurance in place, you can start looking for potential clients and get started. I recently just started up my own painting buisiness and so far have registered my company, have a liability insurance, opened up a buisiness account at my bank and have some minor marketing going on to get my name around. Hope this helps and best of luck for your new buisiness.
Thanks guys. This is a very scary thing to do. I'm taking my time to start up my business. I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I start. Thanks again. Keep the advice coming.
