This is the first time I have done a small tile ceramic back splash. Looking for directions and advice on it please.
What are your questions exactly? What size tile are you using? One wall or L shaped counter? To best answer your question, I would need some of these answered first.
Thank you.

Choosing the proper tile size finish and shape is the first step. Be conscious of the height of the tile and how it will look between the upper cabinets and the counter. Avoid tile size that leaves you with only small slivers.
Make sure the wall is smooth and free of old loose adhesives if present.
Lay out your tile in advance of placing any glue to avoid issues.
What do you need for tile edgings, and consider the expertise of your tile supplier for picking grout color. Finally, don't forget to clear silicone all inside corners od any tile job.
