We have a three bedroom raised ranch house in the City. Our lot will not accommodate an addition of a garage on the driveway side. I am wondering if our basement (half) can be converted into a garage?
As long as the city will allow it the work can be done. that is not a small job though and will definitely require some engineering and ventilation changes to get approved. But If an engineer can come up with a plan the city likes then sure thing as long as you are ready to spend the money it takes for a job like that.
If you know of a few good builders in your area, ask around a bit. If not go to the Better Business Bureau site in your area and contact a few Contractors to get some different Ideas. You will probably have to pour a thicker slab on top of your existing one in order to accommodate vehicles, and ventilation will also be a issue. The City will tell you if you require a Engineer after they see you plans.
