Just wondering if anyone knows how collecting the crb and working works? I know that I can only make 38 thousand before paying back the crb but is it ok for me to collect the crb and still work?
To be eligibility for CRB does not mean you cannot be working, but you MUST be making 50% or less than your average "pre-pandemic income". You compare it to your weekly average for your qualifying income, so either your 2019 tax year OR your 2020 tax year OR the 12 months prior to your first CRB application.
More information on calculating your average income can be found here: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/benefits/recovery-benefit/crb-who-apply.html
Examples:
1. If your qualifying period was the 2019 tax year and you had $5000 in net self-employment income your weekly average is $96.16. Therefore, if you made more than $96.16 in any of the fixed 2 week CRB periods you do NOT qualify for that period.
2. If your qualifying period was the 2020 tax year and you had $26,000 in employment income your weekly average is $500. Therefore, if you made more than $500 in any of the fixed 2 week CRB periods you do NOT qualify for that period.
3. If your qualifying period was the 2019 tax year and you had $104,000 in employment income your weekly average is $2000. Therefore, if you made more than $2000 in any of the fixed 2 week CRB periods you do NOT qualify for that period.
I was under the impression you could still work and collect it given the circumstances
So if I had a two week period where I didn't make much I could apply, but how would that work with last years taxes since I didn't make that much cause of the lockdown and was collecting celeb so now I can't collect crb so essentially the lockdowns are affecting me twice
