What permit or license do you need to install HVAC duct/pipes?

How about the installation of commercial kitchen exhaust systems and make up air systems?

Hi There!

What You need is mechanical engineer and He will size the exhaust hood ,electronic air cleaner and make up air unit, then He will give You the drawing to apply for permit, then You need professional duct fitter and of course licensed electrician.

The installer of a commercial application must have an Engineer stamp and design the job. The enforcing authority usually the Fire Commissioners Office in Manitoba then signs off on the drawing. The sheet metal trade is not a licensed trade like electrical or gas fitting, it is a proper red seal trade but because it does not entail a real and present danger to the public if it is not done correctly it does not require the permitting process. All electrical work or gas fitting for the make up air or any other electrical on the job has to be submitted for permits and inspection. Residential work that does not entail electrical or gas fitting requires no permit or Engineers stamp. All the best Jack
