Concrete floor and plumbing...

I want to move my kitchen sink from the wall to the island. This involves going through concrete as I'm in a condo on the ground floor. The plan would then be to use the old sink location for the new dishwasher. Some have mentioned it will be very expensive to get the plumbing over to the island, but I want some idea as to actual dollar amounts. It will need to move approximately 7-8 feet from where it is now.

Really depends on where your drain line from the existing sink travels If your lucky .. It will travel toward the area you would like the new sink. Line locate with a camera or locating device... First step would cost about 150-200.. Then a price for installing the new lines (drainage and water) can be figured out. Depending on your condo RULES .. you may not be allowed to break the slab

Thanks. I am going to review the condo rules this weekend. Hopefully I can and if not, there may still be a way to move the sink into a better position by running the piping underneath the new cabinets instead.

Depending on what your strata and your local "plumbing code" dictate you might not be able to get a permit to do it. Locally in Vancouver "cheater" vents were banned about 3 years ago however not all GVA municipalities carry that bylaw.

With cost; you will need to scan and core the concrete for holes to be cored properly and in the right spots then the drawing attached should be done for the plumbing. Remember that you have to have 1/4 per foot grade in the floor below and the ceiling below will have to be fully exposed as well as the wall where you plan on connecting.

All in all you'd be at about $1200 for scanning and coring and approx. $1800 for rough in/$200-$400 for finishing and fixture installation or at least that would be my minimum. If there are working noise hours like after 9am and nothing after 4pm I would add $1200 more to that quote.

Hope that helps.

Wow...that is costly. I do have a plan B that would just mean moving it over a few feet along the wall so that it would still kind of face outward.

May need to do that.

Thanks for your input!

It depends on what is in the ceiling on the floor below you, is it your condo still? Do you have board approval? Are the floors on the kitchen level heated? Approx how thick is the slab?

What's underneath the floor? Is this a ground floor or an upper floor? If it's a ground floor, it's probably just best to rent a chipping hammer or hire a plumbing expert to cut out the concrete and install the tubing for a standard toilet. I don't know how much of a headache replacing or getting parts for backout toilets might be in the future. For an upper floor you will very likely be forced to just bore straight through and run the pipe externally on the floor underneath. The slab will not be thick enough and breaking 3 feet to fit the pipe will almost certainly involve cutting through a lot or rebar which is a big no no.
