Hi
We had a high end garage floor epoxy floor installed in our 3 car garage in 2017. The warranty is for 15 years. The contractor tested the concrete before installation and it was given the ok. The warranty covers yellowing and oxidation. A section of the floor all along the doors yellowed.
After months of emails, the contractor came to fix the problem but explained that in 2020 the head office changed the warranty coverage to not include yellowing and oxidation and also they do not use the same insurance company. Can a contractor do this?
The contractor said would fix this problem but next time it would cost huge dollars to fix if it happened again. The contractor did the repair but admittedly ground down the concrete too much in some areas and the repair looked awful. He came back once again and repaired. The resin mixture failed and would not harden. It was supposed to harden after He came back once again, scraped off the resin and plastic chips, made another quick repair and said he would return in a couple of hours to inspect. He never did come back. I sent him pictures of the mess and asked to return to fix properly. He just said thanks and no more response. This is a supposedly high end garage floor coating company.

A company can change its policies. Also never believe "very long term warranty claims", they are marketing tools....there is a ton of fine print in most long-term product warranties based on perfect conditions which never apply in the real world, you must also meet the criteria for these to get a stated warranty, IE: there is no such thing as 50 year or life time shingles (most people are lucky to get 15 out of any of them) and no such thing as 15 year concrete floor coverings(epoxies will never be perfect for 15 years unless you never drive on it), No such thing as no rot with treated lumber etc, etc. We are typically told anything to sell products. As too labor, most good Contractors will guarantee workmanship 1-2 years and that is most you will get realistically. For alot of "too good to be true product claims", big companies will try to use their loop holes to deny a claim, just like the insurance industry. It is always best to stick to the older tried and true methods and products when in doubt. After 35 years in this business, I am amazed at the garbage out there and how bad many product claims are.
