The contractor has install Hardie planks right on the window trim. If I need to change the window in future, I will not be able to take the window out without removing the planks. When I ask why he install this way, he said that's how it is install. Can you advise if it's wrong or right. See pictures.

Its not done wrong its just preference. The way he installed it looks better. If you need to replace the window the trim board will come out easy without touching the Hardie Board. If he installed the Hardie first, then the trim board, you would have a void that could allow water penetration. This way its actually a better seal.
