Hello,
My neighbor recently had a contractor build a deck on his home (see attached photos). It measures 1,000 square feet in size. He paid $35,500 after taxes.
I'm thinking about doing something similar as I have a very similar yard and house but I was wondering if what he paid was a fair price?
The deck is entirely made of pressure treated wood and the gazebo footings are buried in concrete sonnet tubes. If my math is correct the cost per square foot was $31.41.
Any advice/comments are appreciated.
Thanks
Obviously pictures don't show all flaws in work, but it looks to be high quality craftsmanship. I started off as carp helper years ago with a custom deck builder in the Ottawa west area. This price is consistent with going rates then, I'm sure prices have gone up a bit since then. Remember a deck is one of the best investments you can make for your yard/home of done properly.
Best of luck!
Hi there,
We are Contracting company that specializes in this type of work. Your neighbor is getting a reasonable price, normally prices for that type of work, ranges from $29-$35 per Sqft. So if you are deciding to build something like your neighbor the price is right!!
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
That's quite high. It all depends tho, labour price should be around 7 to 9 a square stairs, closing in, railing, and gazebo would all be extra and materials extra. Depending on materials price will greatly vary.
Thanks Guys. The workmanship seems really good from what I can tell. The roof on the Gazebo is made from individual deck boards and not plywood. I was just kinda shocked by the sticker price of $35,000 for a pressure treated deck and wanted to get some feedback from the pros. So two of you think it's fair and one thinks it's high. I guess the area of the country where the work is done can play a part in terms of rates.
Here are two more photos I have of the deck. This may help with evaluating the workmanship. He hasn't had the BBQ installed yet that's why it's in the middle of the deck.
Thanks for your input. It's greatly appreciated.
Good morning Mark,
I think that price is in the ballpark for what I'm seeing in the pictures.
You mention the gazebo footings are on concrete? Not all of the beam posts/footings are on concrete footings?
You also need a City of Ottawa permit which I would ensure you or your contractor gets.
The deck looks outstanding!
Enjoy the week-end.
Dave
