We are looking for help with budgeting to finish our basement (~500sq ft). It has one bedroom (~10ftx14ft), one bathroom (~4.5ftx10ft) and a living room area (~12ftx14ft), and a hallway (~3ftx13ft) already roughed in. Looking for help with costing out and installing dry walling, bathroom tiling/installation (the plumbing is already done, just need to hook everything up and install a shower in), minor electrical work (there are only 2 outlets, would like to add more) and pod lights in the living room area. Also like to add in, on separate switches, lights in the bedroom and bathroom.
Thank you in advance!
Between 8000-12000$ to do everything you said.
I think a safe budget amount is about $30 to $35 per square foot.
This amount is going to give you some flexibility in the finishings that you want in the basement and also a little buffer for some issues that may come up.
This job would cost about $20k
As you can see already there is a bit of price difference already. Glad you are looking for budget ideas first. However, you should decide on finishes before going any further. Paint and drywall are minimal costs on a project. The costs really start to change once you expect marble and have a budget for ceramic, subfloor and engineered hardwood, or porcelain or laminate right on concrete or vinyl on concrete, does the floor need to be leveled in preparation for flooring. Many home decorators will give you a more accurate budget if you pay them to advise and suggest colours and finishes etc.
Thanks very much everyone for your replies! Didn't think about finishes and leveling so that's a great place for us to start.
