I have an older home and completing some renovations to it. The hall closet has a step to it (see picture). How can I fix this to get rid of that step so the closet is right on floor level?
What would it roughly cost to have something like this project completed?
Thanks.
The likelihood is that the step is hiding something. Is there a return air vent behind the door? If so, that's likely under the step. It's difficult to give an estimate without further investigation. Moving hvac in a finished room/basement can be difficult at times. I would recommend having a contractor inspect the area first
That definitely looks to be because of your air return vent. You could have it moved to the floor in front of the closet, but that is also inconvenient to most. I think you'll find the cost/reward is not worth the 6" of headspace in the closet
What if I was to leave the vent as is but remove the shelf-like ledge off so it will then be flat?
